On 24 March 2024, Russia launched a major airstrike attack against Ukraine, involving at least 20 missiles. At 4:23 a.m., one missile launched against Ukraine crossed the Poland–Ukraine border near Oserdów, Lublin Voivodeship and remained in Polish airspace for 39 seconds, travelling 1–2 kilometres (0.62–1.24 mi) before crossing back into Ukraine.[1][2][3] As a result of the airspace violation, the Polish Air Force and NATO air forces scrambled several F-16 Fighting Falcons.[1][4]
Reactions
Following the airspace violation the Polish government demanded an explanation from the Russian government over the incident as it was not the first time, the last time occurring on 15 November 2022.[1][5][6] In 2022 a downed missile fired by a Ukrainian air defense missile went astray and killed 2 people.[7]
