I accidentally deleted the whole initial revision, instead of only revision-deleting the image. A bug is preventing me from fixing this mistake at this time; I hope that someone will remind in the future if I don't remember to fix it after the bug is fixed. The initial revision was as follows: 01:29, 25 August 2023 Tataral (talk | contribs) 460 × 498 (49,067 bytes) (Uploading a non-free work, as object of commentary using File Upload Wizard) -- zzuuzz(talk)14:45, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I did suspect as much. However with a probability that something might go wrong, I don't think this is the precise time to try it. I don't mind if anyone else wants to have a go. Otherwise, I think it can wait a while. -- zzuuzz(talk)20:16, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This file would be better quality if it was sourced directly from the original media release file, not what is obviously a frame grab from a TV broadcast as is the current Axios version. It may be that the Fulton County Sheriff's Office watermarked file already had the same obvious upscaling artefacts, but given that the image here needs to be of low pixel dimensions, sourcing it from an original higher-resolution verified photograph is preferred. Quilt Phase (talk) 23:29, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It clearly is not the original. The NYT file ("25themorning-mug-fjqg-superJumbo.jpg.webp" 1080 x 1080) is sourced from the same image as the Axios file ("1692924813223.png.webp", 1920x1080), but they are not the same. The NYT watermark also clearly has similar AI artefacts to the AP News file mentioned above. Quilt Phase (talk) 09:29, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Original as in material released by the county. It's not an "AI" artifact, it's just standard artifacts from shitty, low resolution cameras. It's also not my responsibility to explain how Content Management Systems operate for why filenames and aspect ratios are different. -- dsprc[talk]20:09, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
this is the original file with no watermark. 2500x2468 resolution.
I won't be doing it, but if someone else wants to, they can submit the required forms to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and get the file/image from them directly: (See links and forms near the top currently here). I would also be curious about the copyright disposition of the image, because we may be unnecessarily limiting ourselves if they're not claiming copyright over the image. I do find it hard to believe in this day and age they're not using better cameras for booking photos (especially with the desire to use facial recognition cameras in the long run being undermined by low quality booking photos today). —Locke Cole • t • c19:20, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is {{non-free historic image}} the right template to use here? I only ask as it refers to the file being a faithful digitisation, which seems to imply it was intended more for use on old photos that have been digitised, rather than photos with a historical potential.
