Q: Why is the KKK information included in the lead section?

A: This issue has been discussed many times, including the following: Archive 1 (2006), Archive 2(2007), Archive 2(2011)}, Archive 3 (2019-2021). Discussion of the issue occurred again in May 2021. Editorial consensus is to include the information, per this edit, which was then adjusted here and here.
