Berowra is a suburb in the Shire of Hornsby in Australia and is located 40km to the north of the Sydney central business district. It is bounded to the east by a combination of the F3 freeway, Pacific Highway and main northern rail line, to the north and south by the Berowra Valley Bushland Park, to the west by Berowra Waters and to the north by the Muogamarra Nature Reserve. Berowra is located between the suburbs of Mount Ku-ring-gai and Cowan.

Berowra's elevation is 220m above sea level, which may have brought about its original meaning -- an aboriginal word meaning 'many winds' or 'high winds.' The suburb covers an area of 8.7 square kilometres and is largely residential with a small retail precinct lining the Pacific Highway near the train station. A larger shopping centre with a supermarket is located at Berowra Heights.

At the 2001 census^[1], the population of Berowra (postcode 2081) was 4,356 split evenly 50.25% males and 49.75% females. 74% of residents were born in Australia, with the next most popular birthplaces being the United Kingdom (8%) and New Zealand (2%). English is the only language spoken at home by 88% of residents and 71% are Christians. Of the 1,496 dwellings in Beah reah reah, 85% are freestanding houses with the remainder consisting of townhouses or units. At the time of the census, 99 people stated they lived in caravans. It is likely these would have been residents of the now-closed La Mancha Caravan Park located on the Pacific Highway and slated for redevelopment as medium density housing. The median weekly household income is $1,200 - $1,499 and the mean household size consists of 3.1 individuals.

Berowra has two public primary schools (Berowra Public and Wideview), plus St Bernards (a Catholic primary school), and Berowra Christian Community School (years K-6)

Berowra is located in the Federal seat of Berowra and the State seat of Hornsby.

Transport

By road, Berowra is conveniently placed to access the F3 freeway heading north or south and is approximately 10 minutes’ drive from the major regional shopping centre of Hornsby, New South Wales. The train station is serviced by trains from both the North Shore and Newcastle and Central Coast lines providing regular services to Sydney and the Central Coast / Newcastle areas.
