Leo is an astrological sign, which originated from the constellation Leo, and is the fifth sign of the zodiac. Leo is classed as a Positive or masculine, extrovert sign; its element is Fire and its Quality is Fixed. [2] Traditionally in astrology Leo is ruled by the Sun. The opposite sign to Leo is Aquarius.[3] Under the tropical zodiac, Leo is occupied by the Sun from July 23 into August 22, and under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently from August 17 into September 16. The corresponding month in the Babylonian calendar is Abu.
In astrology the astrological signs represent twelve equal segments or divisions of the zodiac. According to astrological beliefs, celestial phenomena reflect or govern human activity on the principle of "as above, so below", so that the twelve signs at the same time are held to represent twelve basic personality types or characteristic modes of expression.[4] The scientific community generally considers astrology as a pseudoscience or superstition.[5][6] ; yet despite this, belief in astrology remains widespread.[7][8][9][10]
Mythology
In mythology Leo is often associated with the Greek myth of the Nemean Lion which was killed by Hercules during one of his twelve labors, and subsequently put into the sky, as well as the mythological figure of Penelope, from the Greek myth of the Trojan War. Leo is also associated with the Greco-Roman god Apollo and sometimes also the gods Helios/Sol, Ra, and Huitzilopochtli and the goddess Sunna.[3]
The astrological symbol or glyph for Leo represents the head and mane of the lion.[11]

Astrologers believe that each sign of the zodiac has its own identifying physical traits. It is thought that Leos tend to be large in all physical features. They are usually tall, with broad shoulders, thin waists, large appendages (hands, feet, etc.), and tend to be quite pale, but dotted with freckles. They tend to keep their head held high and look down their noses at others, and have thick dark hair.
