"Hot n Cold"
Song

"Hot N Cold" is the fourth single from Katy Perry's album, One of the Boys.

Song information

The song has already charted due to strong digital downloads in both the US and Canada. It has also already started to increase massively in airplay since major Top 40 radio stations across the country, including the national Top 40 format leader Z-100 WHTZ/New York, have jumped on adding the single. Blender Magazine calls the track a “spunky, climate-controlled kiss-off,” and Entertainment Weekly agrees, “It’s damn fun.” A video is scheduled for a Los Angeles shoot late in August, with official release to radio early in September. Perry did make the premiere live television performance of “Hot N Cold” on NBC’s Today show outdoor concert series on August 29th. Katy revealed in an interview with Radio 1 that "Hot N Cold" would in fact be the follow up single to her number one hit "I Kissed a Girl" in the United Kingdom. The radio edit replaces the word "bitch" with the word "chick".

Music video

The music video begins at a wedding, as the vows are said between Katy and her soon-to-be husband. However, he backs out, and the song is performed as Katy chases him across town and mentally brutalizes him for having cold feet. The song ends with Katy standing over the groom with a zebra standing beside her, and revealing this was all a 'what-if' vision the groom was having if he had refused. He accepts, and the video ends with the two running down the aisle to a cheering, crowded church.

Chart performance

"Hot N Cold" debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard's Canadian Hot 100 on June 26, 2008, due to digital downloads after the album's release. It debuted on the Hot 100 at number 88 and fell off the next week. In Canada, the song debuted at number 73 and peaked at number 66 the following week. It re-entered the Hot 100 on August 14, 2008, again at number 88. It has currently peaked at number 2 on iTunes virtual store Top Songs and is currently charting at number 9 on the Hot 100, making it her 2nd top 10 hit. In the UK, despite no physical release, due to the release of "One of the Boys", the song has been climbing the UK iTunes Pop Chart.
