Elampillai (ta: இளம்பிள்ளை) is a panchayat town in Salem district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Geography
Elampillai is located at 11°36′N 78°00′E / 11.6°N 78.0°E[1]. It has an average elevation of 257 metres (843 feet). This town is situated right after the famous village #REDIRECT Vembadithalam, a decent village where mostly Devanga chettiar community people live. This village(Vembadithalam) is the main approach to the Elampillai from NH47 Highway.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census[2], Elampillai had a population of 10,629. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Elampillai has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 66%. In Elampillai, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Significant section of the population belongs to the kannada chettiars and kongu vellala gounder community.
Economy
Elampillai's economy depends mainly on textile industry. It serves as a hub for marketing decentralized textile manufacturers from the surrounding villages.
Culture
Hinduism is the major religion in the area. The town has three major temples, namely Mariamman& Kaliamman temple, and Subramanya Swamy temple. Temple car festival of the Mariamman temple usually held in April(Tamil month PANGUNI) is a major festival spanning a weeks festivities. Omm sri selvaganapathy and perumal temple are located in perumagoundampatty very closely to elampillai town.In that selvaganapathy temple have all major gods like lord muruga,dhurgai,dhatsana moorthy and navagragas.
