The 2009 special election for the 5th congressional district of Illinois will be held to replace Rahm Emanuel, whom President Barack Obama has named White House Chief of Staff-designate.
Emanuel resigned the seat effective January 2, 2009.[1] The primary election will be held on March 3, and the general election will be held on April 7.[2]
