Heidi Montag is the debut album by American pop singer Heidi Montag. The album's release date has been pushed since late 2007 due to Montag not having a record deal, some retailers have given the album a 2009 released date due to the contract Montag signed with Warner Bros.[1] The album explores similar genres to those of Montag's influential artist such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears, various genres include pop, soft rock, and retro-electro. However, the album's lyrics deal with break-ups and fashion.

Production

In February 2007, while been interviewed by Us Magazine about her Stuff pictures, Montag was asked if she would like to become a pop star in the future, to which she replied "I am working on my album right now. The sound is going to be very fun, fresh, sexy. It will be the Pussycat Dolls-meets-Gwen Stefani, with a dose of Fergie. I grew up dancing so there also will be a lot of performing. And a lot of my songs will be very sexual."[3]

On August 16, 2007, Ryan Seacrest premiered an unofficial single from Montag's debut album titled, "Body Language", featuring Pratt rapping, on his KIIS-FM radio show. Both Montag and Pratt denied the song was her intended first single with Pratt telling Us Weekly that the tune, "was a song Heidi and I were doing for fun. Never would I rap on her first single!"[1] In December 2007, another track by Montag and produced by David Foster entitled "Touch Me" was leaked online.[4]

On January 19, 2008 it was confirmed by her official MySpace that her first single plus a surprise would be released on February 5, 2008, titled "Higher." The song received an online-only release on iTunes. Along with the single, the accompanying video shot by boyfriend, Spencer Pratt, was also available to purchase. The song and the video received a negative response from websites and readers across the internet, to which Montag responded, "I appreciate people taking the time to write any comment." [5]

Two weeks after the release of the first single a ballad titled "No More" was leaked online forcing Montag to release it has a promotional single the following month, like her first single the track was release to online stores, but unlike "Higher" the promo single received positive comments from the media and public.[6] In June 2008, Montag released two songs, her first official single titled "Fashion"[7] and "One More Drink."[8]

On August 18, 2008, Montag released her third single titled "Overdosin'".[9] On September 2, 2008 another song recorded by Montag called "The Party's Wherever I Am", was leaked onto the internet receiving mixed comments from the public.[10]

On 19 October, 2008 Montag announced in a blog on her official website that her first official single from the album will be "Hot" and will be released in March 2009, the single will be her first physical release and will be accompanied by a music video which Montag says will be "As the song says Hot and Steamy and will be shot in the LA club Le Deux".

She recently hired the songwriter maverick Cathy Dennis who has penned hits for Katy Perry and Britney Spears.[11]

According to TMZ the album will be released in spring 2009.

Controversies

On March 3, 2008 Ryan Seacrest premiered what was suppose to be Montag's third single titled "Dramatic" which featured Britney Spears on his KISS FM morning show.[12] Right after the premier the song was leaked onto the internet.[12] The song was received with positive reaction by the public but met harsh reaction from music critics.[13] The Insider was the first publication to confirm that the song was a complete fabrication by Montag and Pratt. According to Montag's publicist her client knows nothing about the duet. She says, "Heidi has no knowledge of this recording. She did do a demo of this song for possible use on her record, but that recording had a male vocal on it, not Britney Spears."[14] According to reports the song was downloaded illegally over 14 million times from the internet.[15]

The song "Fashion" was featured in the Ugly Betty episode "Bad Amanda", causing much controversy because the vocals on the featured version were not Montag's; they were by Lady Gaga who helped write the song and gave the song to Montag, as Gaga was not using it in her own album.
