- This race marked the debut of Ayrton Senna, Stefan Bellof and Martin Brundle. The Tyrrells of Brundle (from 5th) and Bellof were later both disqualified from all the season's races for technical infringements, but Bellof retired anyway.
- Manfred Winkelhock was also disqualified for a push start.
