The Jacksonville Suns are a minor league baseball team that plays in Jacksonville, Florida. The team is a member of the Southern League, is the Class AA affiliate of the Florida Marlins, and won the AA championship in 2005. In the past the Suns have been affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2001-2008), the Kansas City Royals (1972-1984), the Montreal Expos (1970, 1985-1990), the Milwaukee Brewers (who shared an affiliation with the Montreal Expos in 1970)[1], the Seattle Mariners (1991-1994), and the Detroit Tigers (1994-2000).
The team plays at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, an 11,000-person capacity park that opened in 2003.
The Suns have been mentioned several times in the very popular Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga book series. In the series the main character's (Bella Swan) mother (Renée Dwyer) moves to Jacksonville with her husband (Phil Dwyer) so that he can play for the Suns.
