Trump Marina Hotel Casino is located in Atlantic City, New Jersey and is managed by Trump Entertainment Resorts. It was built as a Hilton, but that company was denied a gambling license by the State of New Jersey due to alleged ties to organized crime when the building was nearly complete and they had to sell the complex to Donald Trump.[2]

Opened in 1985 as Trump's Castle Hotel Casino, it was renamed as Trump Marina in 1997. The resort covers a 14.6 acres (5.9 ha) tract and includes a 74,252 sq ft (6,898.2 m2) casino; 728 guest rooms (including 571 guest rooms, 60 Bay Tower suites and 97 luxury suites); seven restaurants(including the Trump buffet); a nightclub; a 462-seat showroom - The Shell; the 16,920 sq ft (1,572 m2) Grand Cayman; recreation deck with a health spa, outdoor pool, tennis and shuffleboard courts, basketball courts, jogging track; 50,922 sq ft (4,730.8 m2) of meeting and function space; a nine-story parking garage with direct walk-through into the complex; and the 640-slip Frank S. Farley State Marina (a public facility owned by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, managed by Trump Marina Associates). Trump Marina Hotel Casino has earned the Five Star Diamond award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.[citation needed]

The two million square foot complex contains its own bus arrival/departure area and enough parking to handle 3,000 cars. For bus passengers, Trump Marina features a loading and unloading zone with 11 bus bays and a passenger lobby with escalators to the third level atrium and casino. For helicopter passengers, Trump Marina offers a rooftop heliport as an exclusive amenity to the resort.

The third level is the main area of the property. At its center is a 210 ft (64 m) long reception area from which point every amenity - the casino, ballrooms, restaurants, showroom, or meeting rooms - is within a short walk.

Hotel

All hotel rooms are accessed by a key system and include an in-room safe, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, coffee maker featuring Wolfgang Puck coffee and a signature Lodgenet system for on demand movies, digital music and Nintendo games. In 1990, the Trump Castle became the Setting for the Game Show Trump Card.

Room types

  • Bay Tower Rooms and Suites – The standard rooms in the hotel. Trump Marina's 3.17 acres (1.28 ha) recreation deck, located on the fifth and sixth levels in the Bay Tower section, includes a jogging track encircling four tennis courts and a basketball court. Facilities also include a seasonal outdoor pool and shuffle board courts.
  • Crystal Tower Suites – Fitted with marble from Italy, mahogany wood trimmings.

Sale and redevelopment

On May 30, 2008 it was announced that Trump Marina is being sold to Coastal Development LLC and converted into a "Margaritaville" themed resort.[3] The entire complex is to be renovated, and plans are not clear when it comes to expansion.

Coastal Development co-developed Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tampa and Hollywood, Florida. It is also the largest shareholder of Sterling Suffolk Downs. Harrah's Entertainment, which owns the adjacent Harrah's Atlantic City and is developing the first Margaritaville Casino and Resort located in Biloxi, Mississippi which is not affiliated with the Atlantic City Margaritaville Casino.

Use as a radio station transmitter site

The roof of the Trump Marina currently houses the transmitter tower and broadcasting equipment of WWFP 90.5 FM Radio licensed to Brigantine, New Jersey which in turn relays the programming of Elizabeth City, North Carolina Christian broadcaster WGPS.[4]
