Mushroom Third album

The reference for the information regarding the third album has come from the official fanzine at the time. The fanzine was approved by Dannii herself. Please do not delete this text. sailor iain 14:19, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted back the section you wrote because of a couple reasons:

  • since the album was never released, the names of producers, etc. do not need to be included in the article -> all of this info can be found in the Unreleased Dannii Minogue songs article
  • biography articles on Wikipedia tend to focus on major projects and/or events that the subject took part in. An unreleased album doesn't need to be mentioned in great detail. -- Underneath-it-All 16:52, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gay Icon Project

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 21:43, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Article cleanup

This article is somewhat of a mess. Information needs to be updated, sorted through and sourced. I plan to begin working on this shorty, but any help would be wonderful! Underneath-it-All 05:51, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rescue Me / Boogie Woogie

Hi.

Can some really clue-d up Dannii fan possibly put a little bit in about these two singles Dannii done with Euro-groove. They were both sucessful in Japan.

maybe we could also mention "Take Me Inside", The etherial song with AFTERLIFE.

Thank you.

Alex

I'd like to add some things about these singles, including the song she did with J.C.A., but does anyone know where I can find information on these projects? Underneath-it-All 03:37, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cosmetic surgery

Dannii has had cosmetic surgery - and has spoken about it, should this be included in her biographical information? There are lots of other bits on interesting and relevant trivia that would add to the article on her imbd biography.--nixie 12:57, 7 March 2006 (UTC) I think it is relevant. Please add. Chart info

US & Japanese chart info needed for singles. Design 07:01, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I checked for her chart history on Billboard.com, but she has only charted twice on the U.S. charts even though some of her singles have been released in the U.S. Neon Nights charted at #17 on the Top Electronic Albums chart & I Begin To Wonder charted at #2 on the Dance Radio Airplay chart. — Underneath-it-All 17:25, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minogue or Dannii Minogue

I find some of the content hard to read as its written referring to Minogue. In england to refer to someone by their surname is normally seen as extremely formal or an insult. Plus being that there are two minogues in the world. should we refer to dannii as 'dannii' or 'dannii minogue'? (unsigned comment by User:Sailor iain)

its not impolite among the working class i Britain and in many professions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Automatic Mongoose (talkcontribs) 21:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The correct way to refer to someone in an encyclopedic context is by surname, and this is formal but not at all impolite. If necessary to distinguish it is acceptable to use the full name. If discussing both Minogues simultaneously it is ok to use just the given name and then when it's clear that we're talking about Dannii Minogue only, revert to using the surname. If you'd like to see an example of what I mean, have a look at the Kylie Minogue article, where she is referred to throughout as "Minogue" except for the instances where both are discussed at the same time, and they are referred to as "Kylie" and "Dannii". The exception would be people such as Madonna and Cher who have become famous sans surname. Dannii Minogue is sometimes known professionally as "Dannii" (ie record credits) but as she's generally known as "Dannii Minogue" the surname should be used. Rossrs 11:54, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can you show me the source for that. As far as I can see both the Encyclopædia Britannica and MSN Encarta's two of the biggest encycloepdia's refer to artists using their first name. It would be true if you was citing a reference to someone you would refer to the name by surname and then initial but not in content.

http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761554621/Madonna_(entertainer).html

http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9097826?query=madonna&ct=]

(unsigned comment by User:Sailor iain)

Madonna? You've chosen a very bad example. Of all the thousands you could have chosen..... I've already acknowledged that Madonna is an exception. Try another biography for someone that isn't known just by their given name! (Not Cher).
Don't worry I'll find some:
Encarta:
[1] - Bette Davis, referred to as "Davis"
[2] - Helen Keller, referred to as "Keller". Her companion Anne Sullivan referred to as "Sullivan".
[3] - Bill Clinton, referred to as "Clinton".
Britannica:
[4] - Thomas Edison, referred to as "Edison".
[5] - Ella Fitzgerald, referred to as "Fitzgerald".
[6] - Elvis Presley, referred to as "Presley".
I've just entered the first 6 names that came into my head and they are all referred to by their surnames in the body of the article. I found no examples where the given name had been used by itself. This is normal, encyclopedic convention, which Wikipedia follows. Wikipedia's style guide for biographies can be found at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies), and your question is answered in the section "Subsequent use of names". There are numerous Wikipedia articles where the person is referred to by their first name, but aside from the contexts I explained above, these do not conform to the standard approach.
Also please sign your comments by typing in four tildes. (the squiggly symbol on the key to the left of "1". This will show your user name, and the time and date, which makes it easier to read talk pages, which can sometimes grow fairly long. Thanks. Rossrs 13:31, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1995-1996: Unreleased Mushroom International album

Quote:

"She wrote and recorded over 20 songs with various well-known and popular producers such as 'Love to infinity' 'Rapino Brothers', 'Ollie J', 'D.N.A', 'One world', 'Terry Ronald' and 'Jazzy B/Soul 2 Soul'."

It seems that the D.N.A group is probably The DNA Disciples duo, but I am not sure.

Also, is 'Jazzy B' the one referenced here in WP? Can anyone confirm? -Mardus 04:43, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and there's need for confirming 'Soul 2 Soul' and Soul II Soul, too — whether they are the same.
-Mardus 04:47, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mardus, you are correct on both, Jazzy B tho is the main producer for Soul II Soul.sailor iain 17:13, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am also constantly having to re-add the producers that Dannii worked with as someone keeps deleting it, plus chagning the words so that the two Japanese tracks are part of the same recording session which they are not. The text thats there now is taken from the fanzine, so to change this would be to miss quote.sailor iain 08:27, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering if you can explain in the section what a PA is. It would make it easier to read for someone who doesn't know what one is and for a reader who doesn't know anything about Dannii. -- Underneath-it-All 15:51, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sales and Peaks

Someone keeps adding bits of incorrect information like this bit I removed:

"the album stormed the charts, reaching the pole position and selling more than 500,000 copies in the first week alone, while its lead single "So Under Pressure", released on June 12, also reached the pole position in the UK charts, with sales in excess of 1 million units. To date, the album has achieved double-diamond status in the UK, which equates to twenty-times platinum, or six million copies. "So Under Pressure" became her first Australian #1 single, and sold more than 250,000 copies in the first week alone. The album repeated this success, also reaching the top of the charts and selling over 2 million copies.

A megamix video will also be serviced to TV outlets world-wide, which will proceed the highly anticipated global release of the hits collection. The megamix video will highlight the many career triumphs from Dannii's vivid past, featuring a selection of tracks from her four smash-hit albums. Remixes of some of Dannii's classic hits will also be released as promotional materials - including a re-worked version of the international dance anthem "Baby Love" which was originally recorded in 1997 as part of the "Girl" project."

Does anyone know who did it? Harry** 23:30, 16 September 2006.

" and a record breaking nine number-one hit singles on the Dance Charts, becoming one of the most successful dance artists in Britain."

I think the picture is in need of another update. Perhaps a 2009 image?

Someone keeps changing the Top 10 singles to Top 20, Top 75 all the time. THERE IS NO NEED. Just leave it as Top 10 and then don't touch it. It's just stupid to keep changing it. Harry** 13:46, 9 January 2007

GA promotion

Hi, I decided to promote this article to GA status. It seems to meet all the criteria and then some - congratulations to the editors who have worked on it. My only suggestion for further work would be to pare it down a bit - it does not go into excessive detail per se, but neither is it as concise as it could be, listing as it does so many of her singles and label moves and multiple critical reactions to each stage appearances and so on. --Dmz5*Edits**Talk* 00:58, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for promoting the article! -- Underneath-it-All 01:06, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Compilation albums

In the intro, we have the claim that The Hits And Beyond is "her first official "best of" compilation". This is patently not true, as The Singles compilation was released back in 1998. I think this needs changing, but thought I'd solicit comments before doing it. (I'll point out the fact that The Singles was apparently only released in Australia doesn't make it "unofficial".) Gusworld 07:12, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it isn't exactly true, but The Hits & Beyond is her first career spanning, widely released "best of" compilation, which produced a brand new single. The Singles was a budget album released only in Australia. I think the opening should be changed to show how the Hits & Beyond is her second "best of" collection. -- Underneath-it-All 15:31, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it to "her second official "best of" compilation" because it's technically more correct. -- Underneath-it-All 19:33, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have just uploaded seven eight singles samples, ready for use in the article. The samples come complete with fade-ins and -outs, source and copyright information, and fair-use rationales. All samples are listed in the box on the right. Feel free to insert into the article at the appropriate locations (I'd suggest splitting the thing into four parts, following the "Recording career" section structure of the article). Just let me know if you need additional samples. Cheers. --Plek 21:48, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the intro mention Kylie?

I don't know much about Dannii Minogue, but isn't she widely known as Kylie's sister, enough so that this should be mentioned in the intro to the article? I was surprised to see that there was no mention of Kylie, who is significantly more famous. --Galaxiaad 23:53, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kylie is mentioned as being Dannii's sister throughout the article, but I do not think that it should be added to the intro. She is famous in her own right. -- Underneath-it-All 21:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC) 01:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. Infact Kylie should be known as Dannii's famous sister—Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.215.149.99 (talkcontribs)

Assessment completed for Dannii Minogue

As per either a recent request at or because this article was listed as fully or partly unassessed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/Assessment I have just now completed a rating of the article and posted my results to this page. Those results are detailed above in the template box. Unfortunately, due to the volume of articles that need to be assessed, I am unable to leave detailed comments other than to make the following brief observation: material provides important details about subject

However if you have specific questions, please write to me on my talk page and as time permits I will try to provide you with my reasoning. Please put my talk page on your watchlist if you do ask such a question because in the case of these responses I will only post my answer underneath your question.

ALSO if you do not agree with the rating you can list it in the "Requesting an assessment section", and someone will take a look at it.--VS talk 10:27, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography

Why has the filmography been removed? It was merged into the main article as the seperate page has been deleted, and the merge was a decision by the majority. Its a comprehensive list of all her film, television and stage roles. Unless a valid reason is given for its deletion from the article, i think it should be put back, as it was agreed by the majority to be done that way..--Peter2012 6:30, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I removed it by mistake. I've added it back into the article. -- Underneath-it-All 16:11, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gay icon?

'Internationally recognised as a gay icon'? Where? By whom? This needs supporting with a source or it should go as it's personal opinion. While the claim could be made for her sister it's hardly accurate for herself. She's completely unknown (for anything) in 95% of the world. Vauxhall1964 (talk) 14:37, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Precisely. Just because she's jumped onto the bandwagon and tries to peddle her records to gay clubs, this does NOT make her a gay icon.79.66.125.227 (talk) 10:09, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article was reverted twice due to the lack of sources on this. Just searched Google News regarding and there was indeed a Daily Mail article regarding the comments. We normally do not protect pages preemptively, but if the vandalism and BLP violations continue, protection is a must. Willking1979 (talk) 21:53, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
lol what a silly girl, couldnt believe she said that. I think they were upset Strictly Come Dancing got lots of media attention this week for their race row so wanted their own little incident. I think the paragraph needs to be moved, its currently in the Personal life section.. this wasnt in private, needs to be in the main section perhaps. Not much vandalism so far so should be fine, no need for page protection. BritishWatcher (talk) 22:24, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Someone might want to fix the first sentence though. "Danielle Jane "Dannii" Minogue (born 20 October 1971) is an Australian singer, occasional actress, and TV Personality. , although she denies the claims." is probably defamatory or something.
