Roblox using Wikipedia

I have looked at many of the hat and gear descriptions and many use Wikipedia articles without giving credit to Wikipedia. This is mostly with newer gears and hats. 8devon8 (talk) 18:40, 9 August 2009 (UTC-7)

Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia. Most of the text is free to reproduce.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 23:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Noone said you had to pay money of any kind, Gordon, but it deserves credit like any other source.--Feneeth of Borg (talk) 20:31, 25 October 2009 (UTC-5)

Fan Site, Copy Editing, and Cleanup Discussion

Ehh, I noticed the tag. So I made the section... I really cannot tell how an encyclopedia article looks like in a fansite form. This is the second time I saw the copyediting thing, so does it mean bad grammar? And how does this article need to be cleaned up? I'm really confused. Jeremjay24 msg 13:51, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I have a few issues. Take a look at this Diff. Here I changed the wording of a few sentences. As you take a read through the article there are multiple times where the word choice and grammar is not the best. I say fansite as there are some sections that have a few peacock terms that make it read like an ad and almost like a blog. There is always room for improvement. Don't be afraid of these tags, just continue to work on the article to make it all the better. Drop me a line if you have further questions on my taggings.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:30, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
More super-descriptive third-party sources will fix almost all of the problems. It will expand the sections to make it look more article-like. I also think that a lot of the sections need to be merged to make it less strained out. --Briguy9876 (talk) 03:44, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, Briguy. On the other post I made a week ago, had tons of links. I'll do that again... xD Jeremjay24 msg 17:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History and Development without Development!

Should we add that John Shedletsky created the Roblox wiki? (Proof: This Wiki was created by Telamon, and is currently maintained by the ROBLOX community. [Telamon is John]) How about the blog, created on December 8th 2006? We need these stuff in the development section. Jeremjay24 msg 18:24, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We already have links to the roblox Wiki and the Roblox news blog. We know they are maintained by roblox and it really doesn't matter who at roblox created it.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:21, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I mean when it was released. We need Developments in H & D. Jeremjay24 msg 20:28, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AHH WHO AM I KIDDING ROBLOX IS STUPID! OH SHIT!

Merging "Customization" and "Economy" into "Gameplay"

I'm a member of the WikiProject Video Games, and I work at a several other articles. I rarely edit at the RuneScape article, and they have "Economy" in the Gameplay. It seems like that we should merge a few things, as Gordonrox24 said this article is very messy and needs lots of cleanup, copy editing, and reliable sources. It would make a big difference, as we could use the 4 equal signs (====Title====) to easily merge them together. Jeremjay24 msg 14:27, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. The virtual money is part of the gameplay. I will do that right now. Any objections let me know and I can undo it.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:14, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added a caption for the Roblox logo. It was since April 25, if you go on web archive, April 25th was the first day it showed the logo. The old one was the one on Are92's "Figure3". Jeremjay24 msg 14:39, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Development Blog Posts

We should add sources from the blog as it's Wikipedia:SELFPUB, not WP:BLOG. Jeremjay24 msg 15:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is great for verifying facts, not establishing notability. Feel free to use it when Talking about roblox facts.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:15, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising

There are a lot of good articles about ROBLOX and their partnership with Gorilla Nation - for example: http://www.prlog.org/10208811-gorilla-nation-kids-continues-to-grow-its-footprint-with-the-acquisition-of-robloxcom.html There are several others that are easy to find by googling. I think it might be a good idea for someone to add a section on this as these articles contain a lot of interesting comscore numbers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tysondude (talkcontribs) 05:35, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I like that link, but don't like the context it is being used. I would rather remove that section and use this in a section talking about roblox being a good kids game, or about functions like the trade currency wich this article also talks about. I am going to remove some of the peacock terms from your section for now, and we will discuss further.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 12:01, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reference Template?

I believe we should have this template:
<ref>{{cite web|url=http://example.com|title=Page Name|publisher=Publisher|accessdate=Date Retrieved}}</ref>

It's cleaner, and it's more detailed. Jeremjay24 msg 00:31, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can go ahead and convert everything over, but it really isn't necessary. I think that is actually the format for paper references.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:41, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update Scale

Scale Updating Discussion

This page is so active I feel we should look for an updated scale rating. It really doesn't look like a stub and Roblox is a big game; it should have higher importance. Jeremjay24 msg 02:39, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The most they are going to do is up it to start class. It hasn't gotten any more important.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 03:38, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice job getting semi-protection all the way through November. How is it that we get vandalized so often, yet we can't get any referances? Ugh. --Briguy9876 (talk) 20:29, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. Tell me about it.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 02:11, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Any article that concerns things that children use or come in frequent contact with gets vandalized a lot. Roblox is, to my knowledge, primarily played by children and adolescents. Those are the age groups that are most likely to vandalize articles. They are also least likely to add references. Hope that helps. :) This article will likely require indefinite semi-protection. I'm monitoring and reprotecting as necessary. Enigmamsg 20:22, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Roblox HQ Picture on Roblox

Roblox Headquarters built on Roblox.
Roblox never had animation until a Roblox developer added it January 9 2009.

We should have a picture of Roblox HQ on Roblox. I saw Telamon made a picture of one. He made another one long time ago at Crossroads. Instead of the Comic Sans font, they use a different font... we should mention that. If yes. put the Roblox HQ picture on "History and Development" and put the bottom one on "Gameplay". That site is WP:SELFPUB, which won't work unless you use it appropriately. And also because it's the main page, I don't think they would have useful info on that reference. But thanks for your help. Jeremjay24 00:21, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators

As many games do, ROBLOX has certain players who work for the company and can upload further things than the regular ROBLOX user can. They can upload Hats and Gear, as normal players can upload only Shirts and Pants. These players are known as "Administrators," or more commonly, "Admins." These players are adored by the ROBLOX community. Some of the most famous ones are Builderman, Telamon, and ReesemcBlox. They all have around 30 games created by them, as the most a regular user can possibly get is 25. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deady118 (talkcontribs) 22:41, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think administrators are notable enough to have their own section, like many other articles. Thanks for your help though. Jeremjay24 00:19, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, ReesemcBlox is a moderator, not an admin. Moderators are people who make sure people are safe by using the ban hammer to ban violent or users using bad language. —Preceding [[RHYUAKN (talk) 21:36, 10 February 2010 (UTC)]] comment added by RHYUAKN (talkcontribs) 19:26, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ROBLOX's newest logo?

Recently on www.test.roblox.com, they made a new logo. Can I upload it onto here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by BuilderofMan (talkcontribs) 17:38, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When it gets onto the real site I will upload it. There are copyright laws that need to be followed, so I will do it.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:37, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have the picture. It's pretty hard to edit out of that background and make it all transparent. How about I upload the image to a site like Imageshack.us and I can give you the link so you can add? This is BuilderofMan, by the way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.231.119.63 (talk) 17:25, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, as soon as it is on the roblox site I will upload it. It has to be uploaded to Wikipedia locally as to abide by WP:FAIRUSE. There is already an image uploaded so I will just update it, reducing the resolution as well.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We'll upload it as soon as it effects the homepage of Roblox. Jeremjay24 20:35, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It now has. The newer logo is the one that has a slanted rectangle in the middle of the second O, like on the site, not the one that has a pentagon inside the second O. Theguywhohatestwitter (talk) 13:56, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Depending on what site theme you are using, the Logo will look different. There are currently three different logos. Lets stick with the classic one.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 14:15, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I compared 'Roblox Test Theme' and 'Classic' and they both changed their logo. The O is different. Jeremjay24 21:58, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Roblox's "clever" filter and chat system

I know for a fact that Roblox censors it chat based on a premade list saved to a user's computer when installing[2], and that the "Super-Safe Chat" choices are the same. If anyone thinks it's important enough, should this be added to the article somewhere? 99.13.70.165 (talk) 18:46, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, that's not a feature of the game.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:36, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's still a PART of the game. Articles shouldn't only focus on the game itself, but on how it works and was made. 99.13.70.165 (talk) 19:46, 25 October 2009 (UTC) Bias fail from Gordonrox24. 90.201.84.152 (talk) 16:08, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Section about ROBLOX's "Test Server"?

Should we add it? It may be helpful to readers curious about it.--67.231.119.63 (talk) 17:27, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe not as a whole section, but defiantly a little blurb in the history/development section.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:41, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tried it a couple days ago, but then an admin removed it soon after. Theguywhohatestwitter (talk) 00:03, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was a good faith edit. The test server isn't good enough for an encyclopedia. Jeremjay24 20:37, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I saw that Guy. I'm a bit curious why they did so, it's definitely pertinent to the article. 99.13.70.165 (talk) 22:42, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another edit request

The history and development section says: "Roblox has reached an income of approximately $2.3 million to help kids build games."

The reference doesn't support this claim. Roblox received $2.18 million in funding via an equity issue, that is not income. And the last part "to help kids build games" is marketing hype. --82.7.40.7 (talk) 22:41, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a reference? Jeremjay24 13:32, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You want a reference that the current reference doesn't support the claim? It should be pretty apparent but looking at the current reference it doesn't state anything about income, it says "... has raised about $2.3 million in a first round of funding, according to a regulatory filing.". If you look at the regulatory filing it has tried to issue $2.3million of equity and most of that has been subscribed with a small amount unsubscribed. Even if you want to ignore looking at the filing itself (as a primary source, though that doesn't matter here), the referenced material still doesn't talk about income. As to the "help kids build games" as marketing hype, I think that's pretty self evident. --82.7.40.7 (talk) 15:51, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Look, you need a reference and I'll replace the reference. And with the "help kids build games", what else should there be? Jeremjay24 20:46, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how much more simple I can make this - I do not want to replace the reference - the fault is not in the reference, the fault is in the text in the article, I am asking for an edit to fix the text in the article.
The reference there does not support the claim, we then have three options (1) Find a reference which does support the claim, this reference doesn't exist as the didn't get that money as income (2) Remove the sentence completely as unsupported by the reference or (3) fix the text so it matches the reference. I am suggesting that (3) is the correct option, fix the text so it is actually supported by the reference.
With regard the last part of "what else should be there" - nothing, we should conform to a neutral point of view and state the facts absent the peacock terms and marketing i.e. "Roblox has gained $2.18 million in funding via an equity issue." it needs say no more or less than that. --82.7.40.7 (talk) 22:16, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I see what you mean. I still don't understand why you don't create an account so you can edit pages like this one. Each to his own I guess. Thanks for pointing that out!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 23:08, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dates.

Bias and lack of criticisms section

There are numerous references to ROBLOX's paid benefits which do not benefit the article itself, and could be considered bias. The sources do not seem reliable enough either (random financial blogs and the company's website itself) and there is no criticisms section, of which there are numerous. One of the people who chiefly edits the article also appears to be a moderator of the ROBLOX forums. 90.201.84.152 (talk) 16:04, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have dealt with that issue already.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 23:31, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is still bias in the article. The "premium offers" section is totally unneeded and seems to only serve as advertising. Instead of listing random dates in the customization section, add them to History and Development. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.84.152 (talk) 16:40, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I do agree that a great deal of Bias does exist. I would encourage you to create an account, and once it is autoconfirmed, help out in the writing of the article. I am going to refrain from making large changes until further notice.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:25, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Roblox Helps Victims of the Haiti Earthquake

I think we should mention about Roblox giving $0.65 every red hat that sells, and $0.10 every blue hat they sells, with the money going to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. The latest news post should be a great reference. Jeremjay24 12:31, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't think mentioning those are encyclopedic. I would add the GUI info. It is at Places. Check it out. Jeremjay24 01:09, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ref.

I got a message saying "I looked at Reference 24. The Gorilla Nation one. The article says Gorilla Nation bought ROBLOX. >< I looked at who added it, I noticed it was you. Please, check it next time. XD"

But from what I see #24 is not Gorilla Nation... am I missing something?--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:38, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My fault, it's #29. Monkey Fox Contributes! . 23:44, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's weird. Does Gorilla Nation own Roblox? Jeremjay24 14:41, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I looked into it. Maybe the webpage isn't worded very well. Gorrilla Nation is the site that provides the ads for the Roblox site. That's all.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:24, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I thought that was Google. Jeremjay24 21:58, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lua scripted video game?

Roblox lets players program their places with Lua, but Roblox itself isn't a game made with Lua. So for example, WoW is in the category because Blizzard made the game with Lua. The game is an RPG, not a building game like Roblox. I have no idea how the devs made the game, but I'll look into it tomorrow. This is Jeremjay24, by the way. Login doesn't work on my DSi. 98.109.40.165 (talk) 03:24, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Places

Amazingly, in Roblox, you can make your own place (for current Robloxians, "What a surprise...")! You can then save the changes and other people can visit your place. Everytime someone visits your place, you get one Ticket(Tix), the currency of Robloxia. RHYUAKN (talk) 21:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Avatar Color

I just saw this: "A starting avatar's head shape is always randomized. Colors are always the same until the user purchases new clothing from the catalog."

The part about the color is not true, you can change your avatar color without buying new clothes, color changing is free. Someone should probably fix this. Rocks25 (talk) 14:06, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Thanks! Jeremjay24 22:03, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
