Valve Corporation is an American video game developer and publisher founded in 1996 by former Microsoft employees Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington and currently based in Bellevue, Washington. The studio is known for their first-person shooter series, including Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortess, and Day of Defeat. All games released by Valve use one of two engines of their own creation - the Quake-based GoldSRC or its successor, Source.
