Hello, I am new in wikipedia and edited an article based on a german one. I saw on the article page a massage that I should rewrite this. Could you tell me which part of the article is not correctly and I have to change? I am not experienced, need some help. --Halinal (talk) 19:21, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello Halinal, can you please link me to the page that you are asking for me to look at? I am not sure of what you mean. Can you write your next message in German? Thank you. Blurpeace 00:28, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Tokaido image

Hello Blurpeace, I have come across File:Tokaido Nagoya factory.jpg, which is an image from Wikimedia Commons and has an 'ineligible for copyright and therefore in the public domain' description attached. The original image appears to be from here, with a clear copyright statement on that page. I am not sure how to proceed since the image is on Wikimedia Commons rather than Wikipedia, and I don't wish to create a new account. (I looked at Wikipedia's guide on possibly unfree files and it looks like I would have to create an account on Wikimedia Commons.) Would you be able to look into, or provide guidance, on this potential copyright violation, please? Thanks. Janggeom (talk) 00:21, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I have gone ahead and deleted the image. Also, since you already have an account on Wikipedia, just click on "my preferences" at the top-right of your interface, and then click on "Manage your global account" or "Merge this account" (not sure what it's titled). After that, you're automatically registered at all other Wikimedia projects under the same username and password. Blurpeace 00:33, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Interesting. I knew about unified logins, but since Wikimedia Commons didn't show up on the 'list of accounts unified' (when I did this some time ago) I assumed that I didn't have an account on Wikimedia Commons. Thanks for looking into the situation above and for your clarification on the unified accounts. Janggeom (talk) 00:39, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Sure. Now, about the image, unless it's a clear copyright violation or meets Wikimedia Commons's speedy deletion criteria, you should nominate the image at deletion requests. The process is a combination of the English Wikipedia's FFD and PUF. Hope that helps, Blurpeace 00:48, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it does look like it was there (or at least, it is there now), so I might have missed it before—if so, my oversight. Thanks again. Janggeom (talk) 00:50, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

File:Fiji Water logo.svg

Hi, I noticed that you uploaded File:Fiji Water logo.svg onto commons claiming pd-textlogo. THis only applies to logos from the United States and not from other countries like Fiji. Also the colouring and style in the "Fiji" is unusual, and not jsut plain text. Therefore I suspect that copyright does apply even in USA. However it could be loaded under fair use in en.wikipedia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:57, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

"Commons accepts images of text in a general typeface and of simple geometric shapes, even if it happens to be a trademarked logo. Such images should be tagged with {{PD-textlogo}}. Any design which is an artistic work may be copyrighted, however," is what Commons:Licensing says. The 1999 Copyright Act of Fiji states in §2-1 "'artistic work' means a graphic work, photograph, sculpture, collage or model, irrespective of artistic quality." A graphic work is defined as "painting, drawing, diagram, map, chart, or plan." I do not believe it is a "photograph, sculpture, collage or model." Hope that helps. I should give notice IANAL. --Mikemoral♪♫ 19:01, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for answering Graeme, Mike; I had asked him to do so over IRC as I was busy at the time. Adding onto his response: colors are not original, per se, and it has been accepted that simple wordmarks are not protected by most countries' copyright laws. Blurpeace 19:47, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Codefest logo.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Codefest logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

(Arch-TRHO 04:52, 28 April 2010 (UTC))

Hello Arch-TRHO, the license given at the Flickr page is acceptable but I'm not sure that the account holder is the "copyright holder" (i.e., the one legally allowed to choose the licensing). I would request an OTRS confirmation as the account does not look official. Sincerely, Blurpeace 21:05, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 April newsletter

Round two is over, and we are down to our final 32. For anyone interested in the final standings (though not arranged by group) this page has been compiled. Congratulations to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions), our clear overall round winner, and to Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions) and Norway Arsenikk (submissions), who were solidly second and third respectively. There were a good number of high scorers this round- competition was certainly tough! Round three begins tomorrow, but anything promoted after the end of round two is eligible for points. 16 contestants (eight pool leaders and eight wildcards) will progress to round four in two months- things are really starting to get competitive. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Judge iMatthew has retired from Wikipedia, and we wish him the best. The competition has been ticking over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. A special thank you goes to participants Bavaria Stone (submissions) and White Shadows (submissions) for their help in preparing for round three. Good luck everyone! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Thanks. But when you do use our work (I don't suggest taking word for word), please try and leave a little note at the bottom like, "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". ♥ Blurpeace 21:46, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Ignore the religious subtext of this song, but its lyrics are a fine summation of how to progress as an administrator. Thanks for taking on these extra tasks. Risker (talk) 04:16, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for that link, Risker! It's very fitting (BTW, I've always liked religious music). And sure will Explicit; probably get started on it sometime soon. Blurpeace 04:39, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Since you are the newest administrator, I'm going to bug you with my problem. Could you delete this page for me? I decided I don't want it, and the CSD templates don't work with script pages, apparently. Thanks. Hi878 (talk) 05:37, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Done. :) Blurpeace 05:40, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

It doesn't matter if you support it; that is the point of being conquered. :) I'd like it if you would put the tag back, but I can't force you. Until we take over the wiki, that is... Hi878 (talk) 04:56, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, what claims of notability does BIHARI LAL BODYBUILDER profess? You might want to brush up on the speedy deletion criteria yourself. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 03:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, to quote the article itself, "He won gold in the Bejing common games in 2008 held in China, and also got an award of honor from Punjab chief minister Sh Parkash Singh Badal." If I'm interpreting that properly, that means he's been at the Olympic games in Beijing (which passes WP:ATHLETE). The awards under "Main achievements" only further that. Sincerely, Blurpeace 04:26, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
What are the Commons games? Everard Proudfoot (talk) 04:31, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
To be honest, I thought that was a bad translation for "Olympic games", but I was probably wrong now that I've closely reviewed the sources (and used a friend; bodybuilding isn't an Olympic sport). He's definitely notable to an extent (i.e., not CSD worthy), but I suggest bringing this to AFD. I'd rather not see the article deleted per BLPPROD. The article seemingly suffers from systemic bias. Blurpeace 04:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I've notified WP:INDIA; hopefully they can assist in source collection. Blurpeace 05:24, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
