History

In 1977, prior to the creation of Dassault Systèmes, Avions Marcel Dassault (AMD) developed a 3-Dimensional (3D) CAD/CAM software, which later would become known as CATIA (Computer-Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application).

Avions Marcel Dassault created Dassault Systèmes in 1981 in order to develop new generations of CATIA. On the same year, Dassault Systèmes entered into a partnership with IBM to sell CATIA worldwide.

In 1992, Dassault Systèmes acquired CADAM, a 2-Dimensional (2D) CAD/CAM software, from IBM and from it created Dassault Systèmes Americas Corp.

In 1997, Dassault Systèmes acquired SolidWorks, a leading developer of mechanical design solutions.[2]

In 1998, Dassault Systèmes purchased IBM Product Data Management (PDM) assets and established Enovia Corp.[3]

In 1999, Dassault Systèmes acquired a majority interest in Smart Solutions Ltd. (former name of SmarTeam Corporation Ltd.) to strengthen its PDM capabilities.

In 2000, the DELMIA brand was launched in order to address the digital manufacturing domain following a series of three acquisitions, including (i) Deneb Robotics, a U.S. company specialized in robotic simulation, (ii) Safework, a Canadian company specialized in human modeling technology, and (iii) EAI-DELTA, a German company specialized in manufacturing process management software. In the same year, Dassault Systèmes also acquired Spatial Technology, a U.S. company developing and selling software components, including ACIS.

In 2005, Dassault Systèmes acquired Abaqus Inc. [4] and from it created the SIMULIA brand. On the same year it also acquired Virtools SA.

In 2006, Dassault Systèmes acquired MatrixOne Inc. [5] to create the next generation of its ENOVIA brand. On the same year, Dassault Systèmes also acquired Dynasim AB, a Swedish company specializing in modeling and simulation solutions for embedded systems, in connection with the development of its CATIA Systems strategy.

In 2007, Dassault Systèmes launched the 3DVIA brand, making 3dvia.com available for users to create, upload and share 3D objects online. It also acquired Seemage,[6] a leader in the creation of 3D interactive product documentation, and from it launched the 3DVIA Composer product line. Virtools was added to the 3DVIA brand and became 3DVIA Virtools. On the same year, Dassault Systèmes also acquired ICEM Ltd, a U.K. company well-known in the automotive industry for its styling, surface modeling and rendering solutions.

In 2010, Dassault Systèmes acquired Exalead Inc..[7] On the same year, it also acquired IBM's sales and support force (all support contracts and around 700 employees) for PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software business for about US$600 million.
