Kung Fu Panda 2 is an upcoming CGI film and a sequel to the 2008 film Kung Fu Panda.[1] It is set to be in 3D (with IMAX 3D only in select international markets), will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson.[1]. The film is set to be released May 26, 2011.[2] The movie has been completed and is rated PG for Sequences of martial arts action and mild violence by the MPAA.

Jack Black, the voice of Po the Panda, announced the sequel during the 2009 Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards, which he hosted again in 2011 to promote the film. The rest of the first film's cast, including Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, and James Hong are set to reprise their roles. New cast members include Victor Garber, Michelle Yeoh, Gary Oldman, Dennis Haysbert, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Danny McBride.[3]

Plot

Po (Jack Black), now a kung fu master, is fighting to protect the Valley of Peace alongside with Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and the Furious Five: Master Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Master Monkey (Jackie Chan), Master Viper (Lucy Liu), Master Mantis (Seth Rogen) and Master Crane (David Cross). When an new enemy, the emperor albino peacock named Lord Shen (Gary Oldman) emerges to take over China with a weapon said to be so powerful that it threatens the very existence of kung fu itself, Po must confront his long lost past to help defeat this threat.[4]

The teaser trailer was shown with both 2D and 3D versions of the films Megamind,[citation needed] Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,[citation needed] Tangled,[citation needed] Gulliver's Travels,[citation needed] and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.[citation needed] The trailer was then released on the Internet on November 7, 2010.[citation needed]

The trailer was shown numerous times during the commercial breaks of the 2011 Kids Choice Awards,[citation needed] which Black hosted.[citation needed]

On December 30, 2010, DreamWorks released a 15-second TV spot for the film.[citation needed] On February 4, 2011, a 30-second spot was released on the Internet, and was aired during Super Bowl XLV, on February 6, 2011.[citation needed]

A full-length theatrical trailer was shown in front of screenings of Rango,[citation needed] Mars Needs Moms,[citation needed] Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,[citation needed] Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil,[citation needed] Rio,[citation needed] and Hop, as well as some UK screenings of Thor.[citation needed]

McDonald's will be adding Kung Fu Panda 2 toys on May 20, 2011 with its Happy Meals.[citation needed]

Video game

THQ will release a video game based on the movie on May 23, 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Kinect for the Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and uDraw feature for the Wii.[5]
