In 2000 it became a Specialist Language College jointly with The Mountbatten School[2]. In 2005 the school's specialisation changed to a Mathematics and Computing College.[3] The school has approximately 1100 children aged 11-16 and 100 teachers and the catchment area includes the villages of Ampfield, Braishfield, Sherfield English, Michelmersh, Timsbury and Awbridge. In August 2011 the School became an academy following a decision reached by the Governors. Academy status approval

The Romsey school will become an Academy on 1st August, Following a decision by the Governors at the End of June 2011. The Romsey School governors and Senior Leadership team decided that there was a huge financial advantage in becoming an academy and that it would strongly benefit the school and it's students.
