Non-free rationale for File:Chris Hegedus camera.jpg

Hi there, thank you very much for your feedback on the Non-free rationale and licensing for File:Chris Hegedus camera.jpg. I've updated both of them and hope that this information will clear up the image's prior ambiguity. If there's an issue with what I've updated, please let me know. Thanks again! --WMM1532 (talk) 4:09, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

The image is basically speedy deletion criterion #7 for images or media - Replaceable fair use, as the subject is alive and there theoretically would be no reason that a photo can't be taken of this person. Since that really can't be addressed, there really can't be a fair use rationale for any copyrighted photo. Skier Dude (talk) 04:59, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skier Dude,

I removed the orphan tag for the Jivamukti yoga logo file pending clarification of the authorization rights of the uploader of the image that replaced it in the Jivamukti Yoga article - basically, I don't understand how a trademarked logo can be released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license by anyone other than the corporation itself. I am awaiting User:Vixhenry's response and did not want the logo deleted in the process. --Wormcast (talk) 22:55, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Making a better artcle (reg removal of the Operational Research society logo from the wikipedia on the Operational research society)on

Dear Skier Dude

You recently removed a logo from the Operational Research Society Wikipedia Page, which I had uploaded. Clearly I have in some way breeched wikipedia rules and guidelines, which was not my intention. I will be reading Wikipedia rules carefully and re-examining all the articles I have written in Wikipedia to improve them.

However, I do get a bit confused over copyright issues and use of appropriate language in Wikipedia, so I tend to construct wikipedia articles based on the structuire of other Wikipedia articles and how they have been written (it seemed a sensible way to build an article to me) as a starting point. If you can point me to a couple of well constructed articles on Learned Professional/Societies which you feel are good Wikipedia articles then that would be much appreciated. Note I do not/will not copy text I will just use the article(s) as a starting point for how my articles should be written.

Any help you can give is appreciated.

All Thanks

I did not request deletion of my talk page, I just created it so it would be available for use. 71.146.10.10 (talk) 00:14, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at the "G7" criteria for deletion WP:CSD#G7 - you blanked the page, which I read as a G7 request since the initial edit was just a dash -which you have just done again. Continual re-creation of a blank page could be considered as vandalism, as there is no reason for doing this. Skier Dude (talk) 00:19, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. "Making it available for use" is nonsense - as every page, even without a dash on it, is always available for editing.Skier Dude (talk) 00:25, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Weatherbill listing

Hey there. Why did you restore it? The entity no longer exists; it's called the Climate Corporation, which now has a separate listing. Thanks JoshAnish (talk) 18:23, 16 January 2012 (UTC)JoshAnish[reply]

You need to be much more specific, I have only one restore that I can remember in the last few days... enter the article title or the file name between double square brackets '' & '' please. Skier Dude (talk) 01:07, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Weatherbill listing. I left one sentence saying it's now called The Climate Corporation, which has its own listing. There no longer is a WeatherBill JoshAnish (talk) 21:35, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the contents of these should be merged Weatherbill be made to a redirect to Climate. You can do this yourself or simply put a {{Merge|The Climate Corporation}} tag on the article and someone may (time- ??) get to it. Skier Dude (talk) 02:04, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent C1 taggings

Please note that I have declined several of your CSD C1 nominations, such as Category:2nd-millennium establishments in Austria. I did this because without too much trouble, I could find non-empty categories which belong in them. In these cases, it was actually simple - see what blue links to century categories exist. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:43, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, shouldn't this file be PD-old? Sumanch (talk) 21:31, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If it's a reproduction by Daivd Rumsey, according to that website [1], the image would be CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 = some rights reserved, which means for here, it's a non-free image because of the CC restrictions. If it were not a re-touched/re-imaged (i.e. the original) image then one of the PD-old licenses would be appropriate, but given the retouched nature of the image and the editor's CC release, we're stuck with treating it like a non-free image. Orphaned image

I tried to put that image in the article but I don't know why the image was not displayed. Maybe you can help? I tried.. ANd syntax was also correct..--Kondicherry (talk) 08:42, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Skier Dude. I see that you deleted the previous version of this image, at least I think you did. But I want to point out that the previous image was actually the one with a fair-use rationale and source. This new version was uploaded on top of "mine" without updating the rationale or source. Since you are an administrator, will you fix this by undeleting the previous image and addressing the other uploader about it? I would have reverted and spoken to that other uploader, but I was busy at the time I discovered the change a few days ago, didn't feel like a confrontation, and figured that the user would be reverted by the person examining the two versions before deciding which one to delete. Flyer22 (talk) 17:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Skier Dude, do you have anything to state about this? Or should I ask the user where they got the source for this image, use that, and update the rest of the fair-use rationale myself? Or just re-upload the previous image? Flyer22 (talk) 22:19, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Got it - overwritten version deleted as non-sourced. Thanks. Skier Dude (talk) 03:22, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Flyer22 (talk) 19:31, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Montage images up for deletion

You stated for each that, "although the individual pics are listed with claimed copyright status, no sources are given to be able to prove these. Without the sources, no way to confirm the (c) status of each image". But the source of each image is given on each of their image description pages. --Geniac (talk) 02:27, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mzi eolcwcpe 170x170-75.jpg

You have tagged this image as

This file is up for deletion, per CSD F5 (orphaned fair use)

I removed the image from the article Don't Wanna Lose You Again (as noted on the talk page) since the article stated:-

Surprisingly, the official cover for the song sports an obvious spelling mistake, writing "Lose" as "Loose". For an unknown reason, this was never corrected, so thus, the cover presented here is an interpretation of the official cover, with the spelling mistake removed.

My understanding of fair use for record covers is that it includes:-

The entire cover: because the image is cover art, a form of product packaging, the entire image is needed to identify the product, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the image.

Clearly, an "interpretation of the official cover" fails to meet this purpose, so I believe it needs deleting, but possibly for a different reason, and possibly sooner?
Hope I've understood the complexities of fair-use - if not the image can be re-inserted back into the article. - Arjayay (talk) 08:51, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of 'unused' non-free images LarianStudiosLogo.png , LarianLogo.png and LarianStudiosLogoM.png

These images were linked to in a draft update for the article they were intended for, and removed by a bot several times since it wasn't the article named when the files were uploaded (though it was a sub page of the Talk page for the main article, named 'draft', so that should have been obvious).

Please un-delete these images. I get a warning to check the deletion log before re-uploading the images, but can not actually re-upload them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianStudiosLogo.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianLogo.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianStudiosLogoM.png

I have requested feedback from Larian Studios on the article edits, and will hopefully be able to update the main page soon, so the draft page shouldn't be around too much longer.

Hi, there.

I have come to learn that you have deleted a file which I uploaded last week, "File:MEG&bandit.jpg" ‎for reason F5: Unused non-free media.

I am a little confused, as from what I understand, as this image was used as part of a book cover by Morris E. Goodman, it constitutes as accepted fair use media. Perhaps I am understanding this wrong, and would gladly welcome an explanation.

Please note that Mr. Goodman is a friend of mine, and is helping me as I am producing a feature film on his life. I have his permission to use this photo. (Is there anything else you need to prove permission?)
