Avengers Vs. X-Men or AvX is a limited series comic book crossover to be published by Marvel Comics beginning in April 2012, that involves the rebirth of the Phoenix Force, the subsequent war between the Avengers (consisting of the main team, the New Avengers, and the Secret Avengers) and the X-Men[1], and the emergence of a future Age of Ultron, as foreshadowed in Marvel Point One. It will be a 12-issue limited series following Avengers: X-Sanction and X-Men Regenesis story lines.

The event is preceded by Avengers Vs. X-Men #0, which will be published in March 2012.[2] According to Marvel, Avengers Vs. X-Men is the end result of all the threads from the Fear Itself, X-Men: Schism and Avengers: The Children's Crusade stories coming together.[3]

Production

The Phoenix Force, the universal avatar of death and rebirth, is approaching Earth and it is assumed that it seeks Hope Summers as its latest host. The X-Men, believing the Phoenix's coming means the re-emergence of the mutant species, are trying to protect and prepare Hope, while the Avengers want to take her into protective custody before the Phoenix arrives.[1] According to Marvel, this event will show Hope crossing paths for the first time with the Scarlet Witch (who was responsible for Decimation at the end of House of M).[4]

Plot

Premise

An unidentified Nova Corps centurion arrives on the home planet of Terrax, saying he must warn everyone about a terrible menace. Terrax engages him in battle, but it is interrupted when the planet is consumed by the Phoenix. Terrax is seemingly destroyed, but the Nova centurion survives.[5]

Meanwhile, Cable, presumed as dead after the Second Coming event, returns from a desolated future, after been informed by Blaquesmith that the Avengers somehow harmed Hope and caused such future. To prevent Hope's death, Cable began "exterminating" the Avengers before they can get to her.[1][4]

AVX: VS

Marvel is going to release a 6 issue tie-In named AVX: VS. Each issue will contain 2 fights from AvX in detail.

Marvel confirmed that it'll be the only special tie-in book of the series.[6][7]
