Origins

Zlatan's father is of Bosniak origin and his mother is Croat, both from BiH. His father is not Roma origin but Bosniak.(Dolina 14:50, 16 May 2007 (UTC)).[reply]

His mother is from some place near Zadar, Croatia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.188.139.105 (talk) 17:13, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Origins 2

Zlatan is a real bitch. Zlatan's father is Bosniak from Bosnia, and his mother is also from Bosnia, etnically Croat. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.78.199.52 (talk) 23:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Origins 3

Would it be appropriate to say that he is of Yugoslav origins?

No it wouldn't, that would imply that he is serb which he is not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.80.115.185 (talk) 23:39, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No that would imply that his origin from Yugoslavia, which he is. ← chandler 10:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My opinion is that due to former bad/nationalistic occurrences in ex-YU it would not be appropriate to put that he is of YU origins. Because here almost each citizen know own nationality (Slovene/Serb/Croat/Bosniak/Macedonian/Montenegrin/Roma...). And only small percentage of people declare himself as Yugoslav.
Also stating as proposed above would not imply that he is Serb.

Parents' Place of Origin

I've noticed that someone has added that Ibrahimović's mother is actually from Zadar. I'm assuming that the person is thinking of the mother's place of birth and possibly also where she grew up. I'm quite sure that both of the parents are from Tuzla but it's possible that the mother is originally from Zadar before moving to live in Tuzla. Later, the family left Tuzla for Malmö, Sweden as the article points out.

If the above is correct ? I'll change the article so it says again that both parents are from Tuzla and add that the mother is originally from Zadar. Awaiting feedback. - Zec 23:15, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've searched the internet in order to find some sort of support to the anonymous edit that claims that Ibrahimović's mother is actually from the Dalmatian city of Zadar in Croatia. However, I haven't found anything that supports this claim. The only thing that my search supports is that Ibrahimović's parents are Bosnians with the father Šefik being an ethnic Bosniak and mother Jurka being an ethnic Croat.

So I'm going to change the page so it again says that both parents are Bosnians with the only difference between the parents being their ethnic origin and not their national origin. - Zec 20:56, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Not a wise change :-) Too bad it appears to have been here for more about eight months without being corrected. Zlatan's mother is Croatian and as far I know she has never lived in Tuzla. Zlatan's parents met in Sweden, not in former Yugoslavia. I don't have any Internet-sources, but one of Sweden's main newspapers had a large article when they visited the village that Zlatan's mother grep up in. It was a small village just outside Zadar. Isber 19:13, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zlatan's both parents are from Bosnia. There are 3 ethnic gropus living in Bosnia-Bosniaks,Croats and Serbs. His father is a Bosniak and his mother is also Bosnian(bosnian Croat). It's like if he were from Switzerland from a father who speaks german and a mother who speaks french. He would have no other nationality but Suisse. So,Zlatan is a Bosnian, born in Sweden. He has 2 nationalities-bosnian and swedish.Dolina 11:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can the croat that is changing his mothers origin please stop posting lies about her being from croatia because she is not. She is bosnian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.214.205.154 (talk) 15:47, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, it seems this article is just another being transforme in extension of the "Yugoslav Wars". The ethnicity of the parents is not such important fact except for those interested in using Wikipedia as mean of political dispute. I suggest just to mention what is undisputed: "His parents were born in former Yugoslavia and emigrated to Sweden from city of Tuzla, in Bosnia". Mcampos69 (talk) 11:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC) == [[He is proud. He is really proudAll this know[reply]

The above is NOT correct, it's just another Bosnian trying to Bosnify a SWEDISH player. Moder is Croat, father Sinti-Bosniak - they met in SWEDEN. *furious* —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bonfyah (talkcontribs) 03:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This Bosnians are really silly, they trying to cheat that his mother is from Bosnia, which is not. Just like Serbs are saying Novak Djokovic's mother isn't Croat. Fact is, Zlatan's mother is from some place near to Zadar. You can even find the places where are Gravić's are from: http://imehrvatsko.net/cmspage/20880/gravic

Beside that he stated that few times on croatian televisions as in croatian newspapers. Once he was in Zadar he sleeps he is at his aunt's place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.188.252.196 (talk) 13:38, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ibrahimovic's international options

@DJ Bungi Zlatan could have played for Croatia the same way Niko Kovac or Boris Zivkovic could and did. Or Joey Didulica or anyone of Croatian descent. Or the way Mauro Camoranesi is from Argentina but plays for Italy due to Italian descent on his mother's side. In Zlatan's case, his mother is Croatian - that made him elgible to play for Croatia. He obviously chose not to, but that doesn't mean that he didn't have the option of doing so under FIFA rules if he wanted. 65.94.128.174 21:46, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If Zlatan didn't play for Sweden, otherwise he could only play for Bosnia because he has 2 nationalities-Bosnian and Swedish. He has no croatian nationality or passport.Dolina 12:02, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to sky sports news,it's being reported that ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC is having a medical at manchester united and his transfer should be completed in 3 days time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lilceza (talkcontribs) 12:31, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Religion

Could we add his religion?

sure. but as long as it is verifiable. __earth (Talk) 15:03, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zlatan did state in an interview that his mother was Croatian... I'm pretty sure she was born in Croatia, otherwise how could of had Croatia asked him to play for them, it would of had been impossible, if his Croatian forebearers immigrated to Bosnia 200 years ago.

"...how could of had Croatia asked him to play for them..."?
Why not? Croatia asks players of Croat origin (that are citizens of other countries) to play for Croatia. Many Croats, born in Germany, play for Croatia, although their families are Croat families from Bosnia and from Herzegovina. Slaven Bilić has actually asked him to join the croatian team when he took over the Croatian national team in 2006 but Zlatan declined.
"...if his Croatian forebearers immigrated to Bosnia 200 years ago." In fact, mostly is the case that those Croats immigrated fromBosnia and from Herzegovina to Croatia. Kubura 07:27, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Internazionale

"On October 2nd 2007 Zlatan gave his critics a double blow and scored two goals in the UEFA Champions League against PSV Eindhoven, scoring in Europe for the first time since December 2005, his first European goals in an Inter shirt."

Italy is in Europe and he's scored goals in Serie A since 2005. I'm guessing it's supposed to say Champions League goals instead but I don't know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.104.217.223 (talk) 03:15, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of international options?

I see that the whole section on his international options has been completely taken out. I can understand why some editors would be hesitant to get involved in such a topic, but to not mention it at all is a little unfair. Here's an interview where he mentions it from just over a year ago:

"Zlatan began his career in the club "Balkan". He was its greatest talent, becaming the key player at just 15-years of age. His first coach, Višegrad refugee Rasim Suljkić, long tried to push Ibrahimović's appearance for the Bosnia-Herzegovina national team. Five years ago, when Bosnia's A2 selection went to a tournament in India, Zlatan received a call-up. He gave a thank you but didn't respond, for he didn't want to play with the second team."

"'I asked 'Where are Salihamidžić, Baljić, Barbarez, Hibić, Bolić...' I'm not pretentious, but simply know how much I'm worth. And that's how I never played for Bosnia. To be honest, I'm not even disappointed. I was born in Sweden and I play for my country. Some were saying that I would play for Croatia, but there was nothing to that. If you must, I feel more Bosnian."

Triva section?!

What the heck happened tp the trivia sectiion?! It was amazing; it offered a hodgepodge of iteresting facts about Zlatan (i.e. Tae Kwan Do, Nationality, LIkes/dislikes. Instead they cram that fact that he shares Isaksson's birthday uo in the opening. I'm resurecting the Trivia section, if anyone wants to help. We can put the hole nationality bit in there as well... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kallstrom11 (talkcontribs) 18:53, 15 January 2008 (UTC) 35.11.149.104 (talk) 00:12, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one unsigned. :D He stated in the L'Equipe interview that his mother is Catholic, dad is muslim, and that he is "just Zlatan". And he said he did believe in God. So I'd call him agnostic at best (or a non-practicing Christian or Muslim). I can't find an online link to the interview though. --Lilyserbia (talk) 05:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just because his name sounds muslim doesn't mean he is. He has admited that he only believes in God, although his dad is muslim and his mom is Roman Catholic. Also, his MySpace pages are created by other users, and are therefore fake. Naturalized?

His father is Croatian and mom is Bosnian and he is Swedish.Does that mean he is naturalized?

Answer: We don't know. It depends on a number of factors. But first, both his parents are from Bosnia though his father is an ethnic bosniak and his mother a croat.

Scenario one: Zlatan's parents come to Sweden and after five years of residence one or both become Swedish citizens. When Zlatan is born he becomes a Swedish citizen at birth.

Scenario two: Since Sweden did not allow dual citizenship at the time Zlatan's parents may have chosen to keep their Bosnian citizenship. Zlatan would have been born a Bosnian citizen only and after 5 years could apply for Swedish citizenship. This process is called notification, or simplified naturalisation.

Sweden didn't allow dual citizenship until July 2001 and Zlatan was in the Swedish national team in January of 2001 so we know he had Swedish citizenship (and not Bosnian) after whatever scenario took place.

And now we don't know either if Zlatan has dual citizenship. When the Swedish law was changed he did have the right to apply for Bosnian citizenship too. But we don't know if he did. --Lilyserbia (talk) 05:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He's done interview where he was asked if he ever considered playing fro Bosnia or Croatia - one of the reasons he gave (apart from being SWEDISH) is that he didn't even have citizenship and never had - in his own words he was "a 100% Swede". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bonfyah (talkcontribs) 03:30, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Malmö FF

While in his early teens, he was a regular in hometown club Malmö FF, whose participants consisted of Bosnian and Somalian immigrants of the Rosengård neighbourhood, some up to twenty years his senior.

I must say that Malmö FF is a proffesional club and as such has players from all around sweden and maybee some international players but it didnt consisted (or consist) of bosnian and somalian imigrants. Thats is probobly true about the Balkan team but not for Malmö FF. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.253.6.162 (talk) 18:08, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also reacted to this. Malmö FF has no policy of using many/only immigrant players, and team members are mostly of Swedish origin. Malmö FF is not in any way known for using neither Bosnian nor Somalian players. I simply deleted the phrase "whose participants consisted of Bosnian and Somalian immigrants of the Rosengård neighbourhood, some up to twenty years his senior." Catrambi (talk) 03:47, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname?

I have never once heard Zlatans nickname as "the Ibrahim". The most commonly used nickname for Zlatan is of course "Ibra" and secondly "Il Genio" (The Genius). So I think that should be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.175.243 (talk) 02:42, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That was my exact thought when reading this article. In the earlier parts of Ibrahimovic's career he was almost always referred to by his first name, "Zlatan", at least in Swedish media. Only after he had been given the nickname "Ibra" in Serie A did Swedish media to some extent follow, and often referred to him as Ibra. Even today, among Swedes, the only name ever used to refer to Ibrahimovic is simply Zlatan. The last name is seldom used, since there are few other Zlatans to distinguish him from. The name Ibra seems to be used by most Italian media, whereas Swedish media use both Zlatan and Ibra. But "the Ibrahim"? I have NEVER heard ANYONE use that nickname for Ibrahimovic. Ever. Catrambi (talk) 03:34, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopedic?

"Ibrahimovic's 08/09 season started brilliantly, hitting the back of the net in Inter's first league match. His goal against Bologna was voted Goal of the Year. He scored it with his heel without moving and accurately into the net from a cross from Brazilian Adriano.[10] Ibrahimovic's form this season has so far been eye-catching, with clever movement off and on the ball, and his passing has been outstanding, such as his acrobatic pass against Lazio [1]. He ended a month long goal drought against Genoa, handing them their first home loss of the season, making Inter the only team not to lose at home in the league."

This seems to be have written by a "Fanboy" and not worthy of an encyclopaedia entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.209.184.230 (talk) 09:57, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name

Since Zlatan was born and raised in Sweden, and has always held single Swedish citizenship, his name is actually spelled "Ibrahimovic" and not "Ibrahimović" (without the ć). The letter ć doesn't exist in Swedish alphabet. This is the name he is registered with in Swedish national registration records, and I've never seen the spelling "Ibrahimović" anywhere else but on Wikipedia. /Slarre (talk) 14:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the player's jersey: it is Ibrahimović, so it's untrue it is only Wikipedia who refers to him with the 'ć' letter. Also [http ://www.football-pictures.net/r-ibrahimovic-254-ibrahimovic-1489.htm here] and here. And, notably, he happens to play as Ibrahimović even with the Swedish national team, as clearly visible here. Languages

I have to say it is actually nothing short of ridiculous to claim he speaks Bosnian and Croatian. I mean, if you want to point out his parents are Bosnian, than you say he speaks Bosnian.

If you want to point out he speaks Serbo-Croatian or Croato-Serbian, which is actually common name to the group of languages spoken by Bosnian, Croatians, Montenegrinians and Serbs than put it that way.

If you want to point out the political structure of Balkans than you should list all the languages he speaks, including Serbian and I would guess Montenegrinian. But what does that have to do with Zlatan???

I would personally leave it at Bosnian and leave out Croatian or any additional languages because that is misplaced here. BalkanBoy1980 (talk) 09:19, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He does not fluently speak Spanish & Catalan.

He doesn't speak Spanish at all. When he is interviewed, he is asked in Spanish and he answers in Italian, but the audience understands him, or the press thinks it does.

He is not fluent in Bosnian/Croatian either. He speaks it somewhat fluently, but not without difficulties (as can be seen in filmed interviews). His mother tongue is Swedish (Scanian dialect). --81.237.202.5 (talk) 23:31, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barcelona section needs serious editing

There is way too much finely-detailed information in the Barcelona section. He has only played 13 league games for Barcelona, yet the section is over twice as large as the Internazionale section, where he played for 3 years. Minute details such as, "He continued his great start to the season by opening the scoring for Barcelona, in the second minute, versus Atletico Madrid in his third league match, leading to a 5-2 win for the Blaugrana," need to be removed. There is no cause for a blow-by-blow description of his entire 09-10 season. phreakydancin (talk) 16:54, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics

can someone please add how many assists he have mad in inter or in barca in the statistics

Would someone like to make a chart from the left side of this page in his statistics? http://www.fcbarcelona.com/web/english/noticies/futbol/temporada09-10/01/n100126108987.html --Dathangy (talk) 07:49, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I found out what a talk page is, I had no idea. it makes a lot of sense to have one. In my opinion, it is necessary, to include in any football player's statistics, the number of assists that player has produced. Assists may not be as significant as goals in many people's opinions, but the fact is that some of the best players in the world are recognized more for their creative passing, or their passing skills (ex: Xavi, Iniesta, ballon d'or nominees 2010, Andrea Pirlo, David Beckham and the list is long) than their goalscoring prowess. Therefore, showing Ibra's number of assist would reflect to the average football enthusiast that he isn't just a goalscorer, but also a gifted playmaker. Moreover, assists are officially counted in some of the most prestigious competitions in the world (English Premier League, Spanish Liga, UEFA Champions' League etc...) Whether or not the Italian Calcio officially recognizes them is of minor importance, because at the end of the day, Zlatan has played in the Spanish Liga, and also continuously in the Champions' League. Hence, the question is: why should his present-day playing in Serie A determine his overall career assists not to be counted? Lega Calcio does not encompass Liga BBVA or Champions' League in terms of importance (it's more like the opposite in my opinion). Lastly, this is his wikipedia page, not his official Serie A player profile, so it should not matter whether the Italian officials count his assists or not. The fact is, he DOES make those assists regardless, and they are recorded by cameras from around the world and listed in various football websites of good reputation (ex: soccernet.com). Lega Calcio does not endorse Wikipedia for making Ibra's official player page. Ibra's page is based on neutrality, and neutrality does involve counting assists for a football player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.23.174.158 (talk) 21:56, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ibra's height

He's not 6'5. More like 6'4 or 6'3 and a half. The Barca site has two different entries for his height. One is under the entry for his height, under personal detials, the other is nearer the bottom in the main text of his profile.

This is what the text says:

'He stands 1.92 metres tall and combines great technique with a powerful physique, making him particularly feared by defenders in the air, as well as making it difficult to take the ball away from him.'

Whereas under personal detials it says he's 195.

I've always thought he was more like 192 than 195. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.180.177.249 (talk) 02:25, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not so known fact, he is 100 kg. I would like to see this is the basic info of the wiki page — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.58.141.249 (talk) 20:01, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have met him at a signing, he is certainly taller than 1.92m. I would have said 1.94m, although not 1.95 or 1.96. I am 1.98m and he was probably an inch and a half shorter than me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.34.50.73 (talk) 16:04, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at various pictures of him, it looks as if he is slightly over 6'4", but not 6'5". 1.94m seems right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.34.55.223 (talk) 14:14, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Honours - Juventus

No title has been actually won with Juventus FC side. Moreover, only the 2004-05 Serie A championship was revoked, whereas the 2005-06 championship was never assigned to Juventus. Correction is needed. --WTer (talk) 04:50, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He is awarded Serie A Foreign Footballer of the Year in 2005 with Juventus and this title has not been withdrawn because of the scandal. Moreover from this [3] it is clearly understood that he himself takes pride about those Scudetti won with Juventus. P|^|C (talk) 21:55, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He is 195, 192 is an old measurement that Juve and Inter sites have inherited from Ajax one without measuring his height again to put it on the site. After medicals in Barcelona and Milan in recent years his height was measured 195 by both teams medical staff.

Ibrahimovic's father is not a Bosnian Serb

Ibrahimovic's father is a Bosniak. I really don't understand the motives of whoever changed it to Bosnian Serb, but that has to change ASAP. His dad has always been a Bosniak... he has been a Bosniak as long as I remember this wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cv51181 (talkcontribs) 21:15, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the source that says Ibrahimovic is a Bosnian Serb? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cv51181 (talkcontribs) 01:04, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question for Woody

Did you verify John Gradwell's edit where he edited Ibrahimovic's wikipedia page to say his dad is Bosnian-Serb? Serious question. I don't understand the double standards here; you want us to verify something that is true (his dad is Bosniak), yet you didn't verify something that is clearly false (his dad being Bosnian-Serb). Wikipedia has quickly become a dreaded bureaucracy. Here's an official source:

http://www.zlatan-ibrahimovic.com/bio.php

Sefik is a Bosniak name by the way, so it should make even more sense that his father is Bosniak. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cv51181 (talkcontribs) 00:31, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted John Gradwell's edit. Mea culpa in terms of not checking the edit history of the page when that edit was reverted. I apologise for not checking that. However none of the links provided as verifying his identity are reliable sources. This is a fansite with information copied from wikipedia, this, this and this are also self-published sources, some mirroring content from here. If there was a verifiable source that could be linked to, that would avoid confusion. Regards, Woody (talk) 10:05, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.zlatan-ibrahimovic.com/bio.php Clearly says his father is Bosniak. Sefik is also known as a Bosniak name. Having him listed as a Bosnian-Serb is clearly false information. 24.57.150.230 (talk) 00:46, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alrighty now - anyone who is a semi-sentient creature and knows anything about the Balkans knows that Zlatan is half Bosniak, half Croatian. This alteration is obviously political, so please have it fixed. There is not a single Serbian in the history of the human genome with the last name Ibrahimovic, and Sefik is a Bosniak name, clear as day. Edit request on 9 March 2012

It seems that the club statistics table - the sum for columns 'league apps', 'cup apps', 'europe apps', 'europe assists' differs from the sums of respective 'total' values. They should be 350, 28, 91, and 17, if the rows are correct. I wonder whether these are just typos (europe assiscts probably is) or indicate that perhaps different sources were used for sums and particular seasons. 68.175.50.84 (talk) 02:39, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done I've adjusted them based on your request, taking into account the change earlier today. I notice that the Malmo FF league apps total doesn't agree with the individual years, so there are more issues here. If you want to identify the discrepancies, I'd be glad to adjust those as well. Edit Request on 18 March 2012

This is a very simple writing request to correct the structure of a sentence.

The Line: On 5 January 2012 in a match against Napoli on continuation of Serie A, Ibra awarded a red card for slapping Salvatore Aronica in an off-the-ball incident and will rule out of Milan's next three games.

Should be: On 5 January 2012 in a match against Napoli on continuation of Serie A, Ibra was awarded a red card for slapping Salvatore Aronica in an off-the-ball incident and was ruled out of Milan's next three games.

Reasoning: The original sentence was a bit confusing with the section, "Ibra awarded a red card", and the following tense, "will rule out of Milan's next three games.".

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.89.246.78 (talk) 03:35, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
