New articles about footballers

Hello. I've noticed that you have created a few new articles about Dutch footballers. While I appreciate your efforts to expand Wikipedia's coverage of football, please add at least one reference to each new article you create so the information can be verified. I expect that you are using some type of source to create the article (e.g., vi.nl, playerhistory.com, guardian.co.uk or something similar) so it should be easy to add the reference. Please see how I modified Nicky Kuiper for an example. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 01:23, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:FC_Oss_logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:FC_Oss_logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 01:48, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello WR227! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 6 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Bongani Khumalo

Hi. I reverted your addition of Bongani Khumalo to the squad section of the Tottenham Hotspur F.C. article because his transfer is still subject to a work permit being granted, according to the BBC. Warnings

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information. When you change an article but don't include an edit summary saying why, or a source that verifies the change, there is no way of telling whether or not your edit is true. GiantSnowman 11:50, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock}}

Before I consider unblocking - why are you swapping between your IP address and your user name? You appear to be using both simultaneously. GiantSnowman 13:55, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman Thanks for considering already. I don't have a good reason for using both my IP address and my user name. In the case of small changes it is not always needed to log in. Most of the time when I log in, it's because of creating a new page. I can guarantee that all the information that I edit is factually correct. You blocked me after I changed the youth clubs of Arjan van Dijk of RKC Waalwijk. Can you explain what I did wrong? Is it really necessary to add sources for a club team/league statistics/heights? I agree that sources are required when text changes are made (which I usually do), but is it required for statistics too? I never see sources related to statistics on pages of other football players. Let me know what I have to improve next time. User:WR227User talk:WR227 17:15, 11 August 2012

Ideally, you should only edit from one account, regardless of how minor the edit is - do you understand and accept that? You did not include a source for the information about the youth clubs - how do we know it's correct? As previously advised, Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information. If you:
a) no longer edit from your IP i.e. only using your WR227 account
b) accept that you need to use sources when adding information
then I will be happy to unblock. GiantSnowman 15:24, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

a) From now on I will always use my account when editing. b) No offense, but let me be honest. I like to update player statistics of Dutch football. I recently created a couple of playerpages of the team PEC Zwolle, e.g. Bart van Hintum. I used a source of Voetbal International, a Dutch football magazine which website includes player statistics. I also added his youth teams, which are not related to this source. You send me a message because of Arjan van Dijk, but it's kind of the same adaptation as I made to players of PEC Zwolle, so what's the difference? And small detail as players' heights do never have sources. Show me an example of a playerpage which has a source that identifies his height. I will be more alert in using sources in the future, but please explain GiantSnowman. You know my intentions and I hope you won't block me because of silly things as heights or statistics. I will always add a player profile and of course I always add sources for text adaptations.

Changing stats is fine - I can see from VI / Soccerway or any other source already present that the stats you have changed are correct - that is why I have not removed that information. But when you add a height, or youth clubs, or other information, and no new source for the new information is provided, we cannot verify the information. GiantSnowman 15:52, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I understand. So in the case of Bart van Hintum I don't need to give a source for his height, because the information is completely new (as I created the page), while in the case of Arjan van Dijk I change information and a source is needed. This is what you meant, don't you? GiantSnowman 17:58, 11 August 2012

Not quite - ALL information needs to be sourced. The reason that heights were not present in the articles you edited is because there was no source for them. GiantSnowman 16:01, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I will no longer make changes if I don't have sources for it. I hope you unblock me GiantSnowman.

I will unblock you - please just remember that every bit of information (place of birth / height / youth clubs / senior stastics etc.) needs sourcing. If you have any more problems or questions, please let me know on my talk page. GiantSnowman 16:11, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Joey Brock

Greetings WR227, I just wanted to let you know that I took a look at your recently created article Joey Brock-- The information is presented clearly and is easy to understand. However, I think the article seems to contain a few errors: the article currently does not contain any references. As a new article, the most important thing is to find reliable references for all existing information. It would be great if you could also improve the related article Kevin Begois.

Request for an Interview

Hi WR227,

I recently sent you a message about Joey Brock.

I am a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University examining how to make interaction in Wikipedia more effective. Our research has shown that certain types of feedback encourage Wikipedians to edit more while others seem to discourage them. Experienced and less experienced Wikipedians seem to have different reactions to very similar feedback. I am interested in interviewing you about your reaction to the message I sent you. A discussion with you will help us better understand the types of feedback that can encourage newcomers's participation to Wikipedia without turning off old-timers.

I can talk with you via online chat, on Skype, over the phone, or just through Wikipedia messages if you are more comfortable with that. The interview should take take less than 60 minutes. You do need to be over 18 years old, and consent to be a part of the study in order to for me to interview you. This study has been approved by Carnegie Mellon's research ethics committee (the IRB), and the Wikipedia Research Committee.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. We will be glad to send you a draft describing our research results right after the interview.
