The term Southeast Europe is usually synonymous with the Balkans in Europe. Recently, due to the resentment towards the term 'Balkan State,' countries not within the Balkan region have wanted to be known as a Southeastern European country instead. A good example of which is Slovenia which is not located in the Balkan mountains.
The following states are located in this region of Europe:
- Slovenia
- Croatia
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Serbia and Montenegro
- Albania
- Macedonia
- Greece
