Elections

Esperanza elections
Thanks for supporting me in the Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. Although I wasn't elected to the Advisory Council, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was shocked at the support, and was touched by it. Hopefully I will re-apply in June and try again for the job. Thanks again, Highway Rainbow Sneakers

Thanks for voting on my RfA

Request for Adminship
Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, Highway Rainbow Sneakers

My 23 Edits

I don't mean to be confrontational, but I wanted to respond to your comment about how I only have 23 edits here. I realize that that may strongly influence the perceived validity of my opinion on whether or not Rmrfstar should become an admin. However, I'd like to point out that I actually know that user personally and I only commented on things I actually know about him "real life" instead of what kind of a Wikipedian he is. I don't think that you can base the validity of my comment that he is trustworthy on how many edits I have on Wikipedia. Also, thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia. --Jsherman256 00:56, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, it's not questioning your ability to comment on Rmfstar's personality... it's just common at Wikipedia to note when a user with a small number of edits votes on RfA or AfD, as it is often a sign that they were invited to do so by someone else (or may be a sockpuppet). It's not always the case, though. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 05:09, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Dear Kimchi.sg — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 72/2/0 and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any adminnery I can help you with in the future. —Whouk (talk) 18:48, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kimchi, thanks for supporting my request for adminship! Unfortunately, it ended with a final tally of 45/15/2, no consensus. I may have another go in the near future, once the school year is over. Thanks again! -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 22:06, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: translation request

Hi. It's true that i am a Vietnamese and my religion is Buddhism. But I am not a researcher in Buddhism, as in I don't study Buddhism theory in details. Since the article you specified contains too many vietnamese Buddhism terms that are difficult to translate into English, I am afraid that I cannot translate it properly without the help from an expert on the topic (a monk, nun, or a Buddhism researcher, ...). For your reference, Vietnamese doesn't have the Buddhism terms of its own - most of the terms found in the article are derived from Chinese (hanzi dialect), with the pronunciation changed a bit to match the Vietnamese style. Sorry. Mdanh2002 02:20, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Kimchi.sg . I might just butt and try and help on this. As you can see on my userpage I don't have much faith in my Vietnamese abilities, but I do have a Vietnamese -> English Buddhism glossary-dictionary which was published by a local monk I know of to help people like me I guess. It's about the Surangama Sutra, I think that's why the author used KLN1 for Kinh Lang Nghiem Book 1 (my computer doesn't have diacritic buttons). Regards, ßlηguγΣη | Have your say!!! - review me 02:31, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did the first paragraph. Please see if they correspond. I'm no expert in Buddhism, it looks like a personal interpretation rather than a particularly strict encyclopedic material. Regards, ßlηguγΣη | Have your say!!! - review me 02:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hi. Haha, it's actually very nice to have an 'active' talk page, rather than an meaningless talk page that stays empty for months. Thanks so much for your messages, making my talk page look more alive! :) Mdanh2002 07:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you liked the page - it was one I knew would need a little care, as both the scientific name (Hamadryas) and the common name (Cracker) have other meanings in Wikipedia. Figured I'd get that straight while I was thinking of it.Dyanega 17:16, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Burn bag page

No, not the grammar edits you made. Rather, the table you made. It appears to conflict with the photo in the article when viewed from my computer (1024X768). Screenshot here. Want your opinion on how to correct it. Thanks. --293.xx.xxx.xx 22:04, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try fix it since it was my doing. Because I made the quotation from the Executive Order display as preformatted text, it ignores line wrapping and I forgot to preview it at lower resolutions. Whoops. Kimchi.sg 01:58, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed the bug, by 1. moving the image up, and 2. changing the preformatted text to <blockquote> which lets the browser wrap the lines. I've tested under Minefield (Firefox nightly) and Opera at 800x600 resolution.
P.S. My university's stupid proxy blocks any URL with "xxx" in it, hence I cannot reply to you on your talk page. This is darn irritating! (it also does the same thing with "sex" and "whore" though.) Kimchi.sg 02:25, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Kimchi.sg, for voting in my RFA. It closed with a final result of 75/1/0. VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:50, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have listed Image:Floodgap gopher in firefox 1.5.PNG, an image you uploaded, for deletion. I replaced it with Image:Gopher in Firefox 1.5.png for the following reasons:

  1. The screenshot in the original was too large.
  2. The text in the screenshot used RGB subpixel rendering, which does not display well on CRT monitors and makes viewing difficult on BGR or top-to-bottom RGB/BGR flat-panels.
  3. The screenshot showed non-standard window decorations and widgets. This can be confusing for users, and can portray a skewed version of the application or its environment.
  4. The screenshot showed unrelated additional content (the other open tabs, Firefox extensions)
  5. The icons for the gopher directories and files were not drawn properly.
  6. Finally, the proper extension for PNG images is .png not .PNG, which is important for case-sensitive systems.

CorbinSimpson's Request for Adminship

Thanks for voting in my request for administrator rights, even though it failed (13/30/4). Sadly, work has forced me to respond to you all using a substituted message rather than a personalized response. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that administrators, to me, should be chosen and approved by the community, and I will continue working to become a better editor and Wikipedian. No matter what the alignment of your vote was, I will take your comments seriously and use them to improve myself. If you wish to discuss your comments personally with me, I would be more than glad to talk about things since the RfA is now over; just leave your concern on my talk page and we will sort things out. Thanks again for voting, and happy editing! - Corbin Be excellent

Anatolia MUD

Hi Kimchi,

I created the "Anatolia MUD" page and I believe you proposed it to be deleted. Would you tell me why you tell me the reason why it is deleted?

I put my comments in TALK:Anatolia MUD. It is short, so I am copy/pasting here.

-- I believe Anatolia MUD is important in the MUD history. You can check the MUD name listed in MUD trees Wikipage. If you google it, you will see that it is very widely used. I am working on improving the article, but I believe deleting straight is not justified.

This is not a commercial project, so posting this at Wikipedia will not benefit me in any way. It is an open-source / free project to benefit the community.

I was trying to put some historical information about how the game came to existance, etc. --

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely, -Serdar

To avoid being deleted, it is not sufficient for an online game just to have its name mentioned on another Wikipedia page. The page must also state in what ways the game is "notable", or special. What most Wikipedia editors consider as "special" for online content (including games such as MUDs) is listed at WP:WEB. In summary, usually a game will need independent reviews in other newspapers or magazines in order not to be deleted.
I find your sentence "If you google it, you will see that it is very widely used." to be untrue. A Google search for Anatolia MUD -wikipedia [1] finds only 57 unique hits. Kimchi.sg 13:31, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But can you contact some one to unblock it?

Just place {{unblock|Reason to unblock the IP}} onto User talk:125.236.44.43 and hopefully an admin will come to unblock the IP. But admins may not unblock if the IP has been used for vandalism very recently. You may also want to put {{sharedip|Your school's name}}at the top of the page, but only if this IP is shared by many students in your school (for example if this IP belongs to a library computer). Assam University

Firstly, repost really isn't supposed to be used for speedy deletions. The copyvio, in the past at least, has been from http://assamuniversity.tripod.com/assam1.htm. This isn't to say that someone couldn't re-write it and have the article stay, which is exactly why repost shouldn't be used for speedy deletions. Cheers, Mak (talk) 16:42, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Felipe Calderon Photo

Sorry about the photo, I was trying to quickly correct what had been done to Felipe Calderon´s profile. Somebody had placed a political cartoon that shows him in a bad light, while the rest of the candidates had their normal photos. Thanks for dropping me a line. Personally, I'm hoping that I can either a) find a source with background info on the early history of the faire or b) find someone who knows. I'm afraid that if I post too much more, I'll just be posting heresay (like the person who posted about Jon Lovitz... I've heard that too, but I can't find a confirming source.) My hope was to plant a seed that could be grown, but it appears that being shunted immediately into AfD, I haven't the time for that.
