Romania

British–Romanian relations are bilateral foreign relations between United Kingdom and Romania. Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1880. Both countries are members of the European Union and NATO. The United Kingdom has an embassy in Bucharest and Romania has an embassy in London.

History

Recently relations between Great Britain and Romania have soured due to unprecedented xenophobic reports in the English press[1] . Caused by economic hardship in the United Kingdom, the European Union freedom of movement has also been criticised. Reminding of pre World War 2 Anti-Semitism, right-wing media has alarmed the British public with false estimates of a large influx of migrants from Romania. The primary focus has been to Roma ethnic group of Romania.
