@Morecombe Wise: This won't be done, since an article already exists at David Eppstein, about someone who looks far more notable. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:21, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bots

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Your welcome to me

(BTW, meant your as in you made it, not mistyped form of you are) First off, thank you for the offer posted on my talk page. But I will probably not be getting a regular user account for editing here for one main reason. I seem to rub too many people the wrong way, either because of my comments (I refuse to be PC at all, except when doing so tongue in cheek), or because I have too different a view point from them, which many times has apparently gone against what I call the mob-rule mentality that seems to be prevalent on wikis. Unfortunately, it seems that fact takes a back seat to "public opinion" too many times these days. 32.212.104.223 (talk) 03:52, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, that was my last edit for the night. Idk. Sometimes I edit w/o logging in, and its just little things. Trying to help Wikipedia any way I can.

Again though, thanks for the message. It means alot, I haven't gotten alot of messages. Maybe we can talk sometime (you seem and probably are nice) (Obviously I'll be logged in when we do lol).

thanks again , I dream of horses

Tag for linkrot

Hi,

You tagged the article I created by extracting data from another article I rewrote for "linkrot". The article is List of banks in Saudi Arabia.

I was first thinking this was done by a bot, but it seems you're telling here it's not the case. (i had a look at other articles of lists of banks and changed numbered lists to bulleted lists to be like other similar pages)

As a new wikipedia contributor, maybe there is something I'm missing ? It's a list of banks, so obviously there will be a list of URLS, like all the other lists of banks in a specific country.

Any information is welcomed, thank you. Mevo Wiki (talk) 19:51, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mevo Wiki: You need other information, not just a link. We need to know when the page was accessed, if it's a newspaper we need to know the article title, etc. You can find out more information here. --I dream of horses (T) @ 21:00, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses:Excuse me, but I don't see any information in what you have written or the link provided of why you tagged the article for "linkrot". You may refer to an automatic tag about references which appeared later (seems because references WERE present but incorrectly written, which has been corrected) - Mevo Wiki (talk) 22:24, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I Dream of Horses, why is your name like that, Emily? You are 5 foot 3, right? And...remember me from a while ago? I posted stuff. Respond ASAP. Do you live in Southern California? I do.

Yes, I dream of Horses, about that. Listen, I am so sorry, I was drunk and I am very sorry. I am not drinking anymore (that I'm a bit underage...) and me and my friends did that. I am very sorry and I didn't mean to. Can we be friends? :) My question was if somebody edits a page, with an account, will their information (email etc) be published on the screen? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.92.222 (talk) 21:57, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No information about you will be published when you edit, besides your username. If you want to remain anonymous, pick a pen name. I dream of horses (T) @ 21:59, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. thanks for your help! I truly apologize, I dream of horses. Is it okay? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.92.222 (talk) 22:02, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I received your edits and am having a hard time with the reference things. The issue you flagged is that I have bare links, but I cannot figure out how to change them to anything but. Can you point me in the right direction for that, please? I am sort of desperate as I cannot figure it out through the wiki links provided for me — Preceding unsigned comment added by DLSF4470 (talkcontribs) 08:34, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DLSF4470: At least give a title for the links and when you read them. --I dream of horses (T) @ 08:37, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, that's what I want to learn how to do! I just don't know how. When I was linking my references, I would manually type out [1] and it always just instantly translated them into "bare links". I am asking: how do I name them? I am so confused, I'm so sorry to be annoying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DLSF4470 (talkcontribs) 08:40, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@DLSF4470: Don't worry about "naming" them for now.
Look at {{cite web}}. See the "accessdate" parameter? That's where you put when you read the website. Put the title of the article or website in the "title" parameter. Put the author(s) name, if any are credited, with the "last" and "first" parameter--the "last" and "first" being named for "last name" and "first name", respectively. --I dream of horses (T) @ 08:47, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I went to Cite Web and see what you are talking about. My question is: am I doing this in the section titled "references"? Because I can't figure out how/where to type these things in, and do not want to lose the other links I've already linked. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DLSF4470 (talkcontribs) 08:50, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Put the template and <ref> </ref> behind whatever sentence you're trying to source, not in the references section. I dream of horses (T) @ 08:52, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I think I can do that. Thank you so much for your help!! I really appreciate it. I went through in the meantime and "de-orphaned" my links, so hopefully that flag can be taken off. I also must go to sleep now but will be able to make changes throughout the week. Is this okay? I really do not want this article to have to get flagged or taken down.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by DLSF4470 (talkcontribs) 09:16, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DLSF4470: Actually, the orphan tag has nothing to do with externals links inside of the articles, but internal links, from other articles, to the article you created. That tag needs to stay.
Don't worry, though, you have time. I dream of horses (T) @ 09:18, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mind going and checking the page I created? I am pretty sure I de-orphaned those words (aka, linked them to other wiki pages). — Preceding unsigned comment added by DLSF4470 (talkcontribs) 09:25, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@DLSF4470: You've got it backwards. You need to add links to Henry C. Beck III from other articles. I dream of horses (T) @ 09:28, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I'm just not understanding how that would work. For instance, am I to go to sites where "civil engineering" is mentioned and put [[ ]] around those words and hope they'll end up back on the page I created? Sorry for being such a dunce about all this :( — Preceding unsigned comment added by DLSF4470 (talkcontribs) 09:30, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@DLSF4470: Don't worry; creating an article has a steep learning curve.
You go to articles that you think you should mention Harry, edit the article so it does, then do [[ ]] around his name. I dream of horses (T) @ 09:33, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Got it! Thank you so much for the help! I've linked Henry C Beck III in quite a few articles now. Is it possible to have that tag removed yet?

@DLSF4470: Sure! I dream of horses (T) @ 09:59, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New article

Since I have extensively added recent editions to the List of people on banknotes page, I was thinking of adding more subjects. How about writing an article focusing on animals depicted on animals? I might need help on taking this task. -NewHikaru07, June 21, 2015, 04:32 (UTC)

@NewHikaru07: What do you mean by animals depicted on animals? --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:34, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actual animals found throughout the world, and not mythical representations depicted as an artistic depiction.
-NewHikaru07, June 21, 2015, 18:55 (UTC)
@NewHikaru07: Like, a list of animals discovered to date? That could get quite lengthy. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:00, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing.

I'm trying to referencing on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Cheung as it is on risk of deletion since i didn't add in any reference. please check it out again and correct if my format is wrong or tell me how to correct it as i tried to check out how but still was not very sure. Thank you for the reminder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluegal01 (talkcontribs) 03:31, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluegal01: It's enough to not get the article deleted, but not quite what we're looking for, still. Can you find a source more reliable than facebook? I dream of horses (T) @ 03:37, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
ok ill try. i found more sites to add on. one is chinese wikipedia as well which has more of his information. is chinese wikipedia more reliable site than FB? =) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluegal01 (talkcontribs) 03:44, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bluegal01: Unfortunately, because there isn't a lot of factual checking before publication with Wikipedia, you can't use a Wikipedia article to reference another one. However, maybe you translate from Chinese to English. I dream of horses (T) @ 03:48, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
awww.. okayy. how about review articles and news articles? =) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluegal01 (talkcontribs) 03:52, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bluegal01: Yeah, that's the sort of source we need. I dream of horses (T) @ 03:54, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
ok thank you ! --Bluegal01 (talk) 03:59, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan tagging

If you're going to patrol the parliamentary member lists that I'm creating, can you please stop orphan tagging them because they don't have tons of incoming links? They're lists of members of a particular parliament in a particular session: that they have three or four inbound links (from the relevant election, from lists in the series before and after, and from the index of member lists) is entirely normal and all they should and will ever have. Tagging them is completely pointless and a waste of your and my time. The Drover's Wife (talk) 10:59, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@The Drover's Wife: Okay, fair enough. Why didn't you tell me this the first time I did it? --I dream of horses (T) @ 11:23, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WWE 2K15 article cleanup

Greetings ma'am. The article, WWE 2K15 was being worked upon heavily by me. I am the original author of 'Featured characters' section in the article. Since it consumed a lot of space on the main article, I thought of making this a separate article. I even have an idea to update this article on release of a new 2K WWE game. However, you have reverted it back to several previous versions, which has resulted in removal of my previous edits on the page. Kindly revert it back to this edit version of 16:20, 22 June 2015‎ (46,198 bytes) so that my previous edits and the 'Featured characters' stay in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AkshayAnand (talkcontribs)

FIIOB

Mate...this really is a football club and it has wide recognition in the social media so I can't just understand why is it not "Notable". Realmmb (talk) 12:04, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Realmmb: Well, actually, there a lot of people and clubs that exist and are widely recognized within social media, but because social media sites (twitter, facebook, etc.) don't have any editorial oversight reducing mistakes before publishing of facts, those people and clubs can't have a Wikipedia article. --I dream of horses (T) @ 13:23, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good afternoon I dream of horses, and thanks for help already provided. As a new user I would kindly ask you to forgive me if I may ask silly questions ... I've tried to find answers looking around but ... I didn't! I've created a second page, named lalettreb, dedicated to a monthly magazine, but I just realized that I made a mistake in the title, typing lalettreb instead of La Lettre B (with spaces). Shall I delete the current page and rewrite another or there's a way to simply change the name of the page? Thanking you again for your patience, I apologize for the mistake.
