File permission problem with File:Ailladie-panorama.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ailladie-panorama.jpg, which you've attributed to "The author, a friend of mine, gave me permission". I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 15:21, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rwxrwxrwx. The same message also applies to File:Davesarcophagus.jpg. Since you did not take the photos, an OTRS ticket is required for each image. There's instructions available at WP:consent as to how to do this. The files have also been nominated for deletion on the Commons. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:31, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. HI there, you removed the full Gallery for Nelson's Pillar stating that wikipedia was NOT an Image Repository. However I ask can you make an exception for this! The reason being Nelson's Pillar no longer exists having been blown up. For educational Purposes and History lessons we feel it is important to see the images! We initially posted these images as part of a Project on Nelson's Pillar Dublin, and feel they are essential for understanding of Nelson's Pillar !

There are a lot of people and schools interested in our Photos of Nelson's Pillar and had hoped this wikipedia article was a great location to find them. We have no intention of posting any other images other than the Gallery Posted as of yesterday 22-March. So that is the Gallery completed !

Initially we had posted numerous photos for various other projects undertaken. The Photos we posted over the last year or so, were based on wikipedia's article requesting for Old Buildings and in particular Monuments!

Is there any way you can make an exception and keep in the Gallery? Any help appreciated. Kind Regards Foxhunter22

Hi @Foxhunter22:. It's true that Wikipedia is "not an image repository", not a photo album, not a scrapbook, it's an encyclopedia. If we make an exception for this, then why not every other article? It would make a mockery of the whole policy. Wikimedia Commons is specifically designed to hold collections of images, and if you click the Commons link at the bottom of the article in question, it will bring you to the Nelson's Pillar category, which contains every image of the thing that has ever been uploaded by anybody for use in all language versions of Wikipedia, and more quality uploads are welcome. I'm not familiar with the Wikipedia request for photos of monuments, but I think you'll find that it asks for the photos to be uploaded to Commons, and only the best few included in Wikipedia articles, in accordance with Wikipedia policies. Cheers. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 20:50, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Rwxrwxrwx:. Fair enough. We will abide by the rules !

It's just a pity you couldn't make an exception here. The reason stated above - lots of learning for School Children, Schools in General, and Professional people doing research on various Projects ongoing here in Dublin Ireland and in England. For a lot of Researchers etc seeing the Pillar and Monument itself is better than reading about it -to see it's scale and detail could only come from a Photo Gallery! Given the Pillar is long gone from Dublin since March 1966, that's 49 years ago this month.

The Monument section we saw a few months ago, is probably something to do with this http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/ Well it's disappointing that's for sure for all of us here !! For instance we were planning to show the Thomas Kirk Statue of Nelson we posted with Birds Nest and British Flag draped over it in detail this Friday to various Interests on Projector using this wikipedia page! The Detail was exceptional !

Either way if you can't do anything for us and it contravenes Rules etc then we can only accept that! Thank you for replying to us! Kind Regards FoxHunter22

Rudeness

Was there any need to be so rude and use foul language like you did in this edit summary? I was courteous and civil in mine, so there was no need for your rudeness. Wes Mouse | T@lk 18:36, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please close AfD

Close AfD before merge, by the way that AfD can not be closed now. I am correct here, you cannot merge an article in without consensus. Though Guy's close is controversial, if the AfD was not opened than the merge can be done since the 3rd AfD is the most recent discussion consensus must be reached. Valoem talk contrib 17:24, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Valoem: This is getting a bit silly. The merge debate was opened on 29 March, nearly 3 weeks ago, there had been huge input into it, and it was properly closed; the consensus was "merge". Just because somebody started a new AfD 3 days ago does not invalidate the merge debate; it invalidates the AfD which was premature, and should be closed now. I can't close it since I am not an admin, and I have taken sides on the issue. I notice an admin is now getting involved in it. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 20:16, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

However

First of all look at the edits, I didn't put anything in there. To say I need to learn punctuation and capitalization is dumb. If you want to make that change then fine, but to say I need to learn it when I didn't write is stupid.

Second read the sentence you seem to want to be there so badly "However, it isn't water resistant so don't submerge it in water." The words "so don't submerge it in water" are not encyclopedic and should probably be removed. Do you suggest we make the sentence just "However, it isn't water resistant." It doesn't make sense to be its own sentence. The proper way the sentence should be is "It has a water resistant coating which protects it from light water splash, however it isn't water resistant." It just flows better and grammatically makes more sense.

If you want to leave the submerge part in there in two sentences it still makes more sense without the word however. "It also has a water resistant coating which protects it from light water splash. It isn't water resistant so don't submerge it in water." - GalatzTalk 20:47, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Galatz: The existing version reads:
The second generation Moto E has a 4.5-inch qHD LCD screen, 1.2 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, storage of 8GB (out of which 5.47 GB is available to the user) with microSD card slot (supports expandable storage of up to 32GB), it also has a water resistant coating which protects it from light water splash. However, it isn't water resistant so don't submerge it in water. It is available in either 3G or 4G LTE.
You have been trying to change it to:
The second generation Moto E has a 4.5-inch qHD LCD screen, 1.2 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, storage of 8GB (out of which 5.47 GB is available to the user) with microSD card slot (supports expandable storage of up to 32GB), it also has a water resistant coating which protects it from light water splash however it isn't water resistant so don't submerge it in water it is available in either 3G or 4G LTE.
Simply getting rid of punctuation and capitals and destroying sentence structure in order to enforce some perceived "rule" about not starting a sentence with "However" is bizarre. First, there is no such rule; some just consider it better style in certain situations. Second, don't just destroy the text you object to; make some effort to improve it. I agree it's not encyclopaedic - make it encyclopaedic without wrecking it. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 21:11, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I didnt "wreck" anything, I undid a change that I viewed as making something worse rather than better. You undid what I undid. To say I have been trying to "change it to" is completely inaccurate. I have been leaving it as it was. Very big difference. - GalatzTalk 21:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Galatz: That looks better now. For the record though, it was you who initiated the changes; I just reverted you. Cheers. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 21:56, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And I just reverted someone else, they initiated it, not me, but whatever, as long as its set now. Thanks - GalatzTalk 01:02, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

May 2015

We do not have any ties to the company or product. However, we would like to be the contributors to the new product and have attached another source of reference. Please review. Thanks Vinopedia (talk) 11:04, 27 May 2015 (UTC)vinopedia[reply]

Hello @Vinopedia:. This refers to your editing of the Corkscrew article to include a description of the "La Flute" product. The only independent reference you provided is a link to a review in "Bella Online", which publishes articles submitted by amateur writers,[1] and is hardly a reliable source. Searching the web, I could find no reliable sources, such as articles in trade journals, professional reviews by wine critics, etc. Probably every brand of corkscrew has been reviewed by somebody somewhere; that doesn't mean each one deserves a listing in this article, which is about corkscrews in general. Your user account is new, devoted only to publicising this product, and your claim of independence is not convincing. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 11:25, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
