Joe Vellano (born October 30, 1988) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently a free agent. The New England Patriots signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played college football at the University of Maryland.

Professional career

New England Patriots

On April 30, 2013, he signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent.[1] In Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, he received his first career start in place of Vince Wilfork, who was placed on injured reserve.[2] On February 1, 2015, Vellano won Super Bowl XLIX as a member of the New England Patriots.[3]

On August 31, 2015, the Patriots released Vellano.[4] He was re-signed him to their practice squad on September 26.[5] He was released again on September 30.[6]

Personal life

Joe Vellano was born and raised in Rexford, New York. Vellano graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 2007. Vellano also attended St. Pius X school in Loudonville from kindergarten up until 5th grade.
