Bang Hyun-sung (Korean: 방현성; Hanja: 方縣成; born June 20, 1991), professionally known as Ryan Bang is a [1] South Korean host, singer, comedian, actor and television personality active in the Philippine entertainment industry since 2011. He rose to fame in the Philippines when he joined the reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash of 2010, where he finished as a runner-up. He hosted his first show, 3ow Powhz!, which aired from late 2010 until early 2011 on Studio 23.
Career
In May 2010, Ryan Bang entered the Big Brother house, along with ten other international housemates, after a Filipino friend encouraged him to join. After 56 days, he garnered enough votes to reach the final episode, where he won Second Teen Big Winner by getting 18.70% of the entire votes.[2] In May 2010, he entered De La Salle University in Manila to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Science Major in Business Management. Later, he had to leave his studies, since due to scheduling conflicts with his show, It's Showtime. Before entering De La Salle University, he had finished his high school education at Reedley International School.[citation needed]
In August 2010, Bang became one of the judges in Showtime, and stayed on as judge as from August 16, 2010 until October 8, 2011.[3] He was eliminated on October 8, 2011, only to be saved by his co-judge Dimples Romana, who opted voluntary eviction from the show to allow Bang to stay. He is Showtime's longest staying judge with 48 weeks.[citation needed]
He formerly hosted 3ow Powhz on Studio 23 and stars in the comedy gag show Banana Split. On December 5, 2010, he joined Kim Atienza in hosting the show Matanglawin.[4] On the January 1, 2011 episode of Entertainment Live, he was named as one of the biggest breakthrough artists of 2010. It was announced on May 24, 2011 that he released a new album entitled I Lilly Lilly Like It: Ryan Bang Party Party Hits!.[5]
In 2012, Bang was a guest on the afternoon drama Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo.[citation needed] He had a guest role in the comedy sitcom Home Sweetie Home in 2013.[citation needed] That same year, he hosted a comedy reality show, Eskwelahan Ni Ryan Bang, which aired on Studio 23 (now ABS-CBN Sports+Action). In 2014, he hosted the comedy reality show Kaya Mo Bang: The Fudge Barr Adventures, and appeared in the dysfunctional family drama Hawak Kamay.[citation needed]
In 2015, Bang starred in a fantasy series, Wansapanataym Presents: Yamashita's Treasure, with co-stars Coco Martin and Julia Montes. In the same year, Bang released a new single, "Shopping" with fellow Banana Split hosts Jayson Gainza, Sunshine Garcia, Aiko Climaco, Donnalyn Bartolome, Yam Concepcion and FHM babes Kristine Santamena and Mayumi Yokoyama. James Reid appeared at the end of the single's music video, which was shot in Resorts World Manila. Bang played a fraternity victim for the Lenten drama, Brod: It's Showtime Lenten Drama Special 2016, in 2016. [citation needed]

Controversy
In January 2013, the Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a tax evasion complaint with the Department of Justice against Bang for failure to pay his 2010 and 2011 taxes. The Bureau of Internal Revenue stated that it was suing him for a tax liability amounting to Php 1.82 million, including surcharges and interests.[6]
In February 2013, Bang stated that he would like to make a personal appearance at the BIR in order to apologize for the incident. He was eager to resolve the case, and made the excuse that he was a high school student in 2010, and was still unaware of his responsibility to the Philippine government, in light of his income from the entertainment sector.[7]
