Template:Infobox military award

Hello, I hope you can help me with this question, i would like to add an important field in this template; can you fix this for me?--Carolus (talk) 16:27, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) The first step is to start a discussion at Template talk:Infobox military award. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:32, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would also leave a notice at WT:MILHIST. — JJMC89 19:54, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, how does this work? Should i write a new chapter in News & open tasks ? It seems very confusing too much info. --Carolus (talk) 20:06, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I forgot about this. After you start the discussion at Template talk:Infobox military award, just place a pointer (e.g. {{please see}}) to that discussion in a new section on WT:MILHIST. — JJMC89 05:51, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stewart Levenson

JJ, I see you marked an article I recently created, Stewart Levenson, as having some problems and mentioned in your edit summary that it was a possible candidate for BLP1E. It may seem odd to hear it, but you have my gratitude: I was paid to create the article, and the person in question rejected my version of the piece and insisted that I substitute his own. I explained that regardless, the article would be a candidate for a BLP1E argument, and that his version was likely to be tagged as such or even nominated for deletion as failing a notability test. I am expected to defend it if it does become nominated for deletion, though such a defense will likely be cursory at best on my part. Personally, I think a move to an article space about the hospital or the event is not at all inappropriate (subject has been warned about those possibilities as well). If you got an inkling to do that, you can expect no resistance from me. I am not saying you should do this... am I? Anyhow, thank you for confirming my suspicions here. KDS4444 (talk) 04:11, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, one more quick thing: the COI template suggests that there will be a corresponding talk page discussion about changes the article needs in order to comply with WP:NPOV. I couldn't agree more, but am concerned that some other editor may remove your tag (which the /doc for the tag says they can do) if there is no actual discussion located on the talk page. Could I get you to initiate that discussion? I would do it myself but as the article creator, I am a poor (i.e., non-credible) candidate. Thanks again! KDS4444 (talk) 04:56, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The article was written by the subject: [Levenson] preferred his version of the article, so am now publishing that. — JJMC89 03:28, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
One more bit: I am a little concerned that a BLP1E "argument" (if one needed to be made, though as I said I would not object to it) could be contraindicated on these grounds: the event appears to likely be notable (which I think it probably is) and the subject's role within the event is large/ substantial (which I think no one would disagree with). When I look over the guidelines for BLP1E with care, I get the idea that maybe the hospital should have an article AND this person should also have a standalone article. That's not an outcome I am hoping for here, mind you, but I am wondering if it isn't the kind of outcome the article might warrant "according to policy/ guidelines". Thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KDS4444 (talkcontribs) 06:31, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
<24 Google News hits for Levenson doesn't say much for him being notable. The hits are only related to this one event. He is one of a group of whistle-blowers. What make him notable and not the others? The current article is mostly about the event, not Levenson, himself; it's more of a pseudo-biography. I don't know that an article about the hospital is warranted either. An article on the event, maybe. — JJMC89 03:28, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No argument there— there is very little to make him more notable than any of the other whistleblowers. He claims to be one of two "leaders" of the group, though the other leader does not as yet seem to have a Wikipedia article. He has been interviewed regarding this incident, so there has been some media attention placed on him specifically, and the Boston Globe also seems to identify him as a group leader, so his role within the incident is one that seems to me as though it would likely be considered significant. WP:BLP1E says, "We should generally avoid having an article on a person when each of three conditions is met: 1.) If reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event; 2.) If that person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual. Biographies in these cases can give undue weight to the event and conflict with neutral point of view. In such cases, it is usually better to merge the information and redirect the person's name to the event article; and 3.) If the event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented. John Hinckley, Jr., for example, has a separate article because the single event he was associated with, the Reagan assassination attempt, was significant and his role was both substantial and well documented." I am wondering if he really meets all three of those "not" conditions, because it looks to me like he escapes through #3, a significant event in which the subject had a significant role. Let me know how you read that. Thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 19:53, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Taylor Company

If you have a moment could you please offer a few words of how Edelman (firm) meets requirements however the edits you made to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Taylor_(company)&diff=796183941 when I used Edelman (leading global agency) as the base template and sourced all info also? Seems very heavy handed edits for my content and repeated ignores of Edelman (firm) when I have called out , sourced and cited accordingly at the same level and standards. Are there different standards for Edelman (firm) ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjkoncur (talkcontribs) 04:00, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OSE type arguments aren't going to get you anywhere. — JJMC89 04:05, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not trying to argue , I am doing my best to cite an example that has been vistited by many editors and follow in similar suit as an accepted base. If you perceived me as being snarky, it wasn't my intention. I keep re-editing and perhaps I cited a poor sample to model off . If you cabn provide any help it would be appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjkoncur (talkcontribs) 04:33, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't saying that you were arguing; just pointing out that just because something is done in one article doesn't mean that it is acceptable. The Edelman article had third-party coverage of the material that is similar to what I removed from Taylor. On Wikipedia we write about what independent reliable sources say. Sourcing things to a company's website, doesn't demonstrate that it is noteworthy. Sourcing non-notable awards to those that determine them doesn't demonstrate that they are noteworthy either. — JJMC89 05:27, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Klein Tools copyvio

Hello, I saw you cleaned the article of infringing works, however, I noticed that the copyvio detector is still complaining [1]. What is up with it? Did they copy from us? Ups and Downs () 07:21, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@UpsandDowns1234: I assume you're talking about 415finder.org. It looks like they copied from Wikipedia. Some of the content has been in our article since the original version, and it looks like the rest was edited in over time. — JJMC89 16:53, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello JJMC89, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 16,991 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.

Technology update:

  • Rentier has created a NPP browser in WMF Labs that allows you to search new unreviewed pages using keywords and categories.

General project update:

  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team is working with the community to implement the autoconfirmed article creation trial. The trial is currently set to start on 7 September 2017, pending final approval of the technical features.
  • Please remember to focus on the quality of review: correct tagging of articles and not tagbombing are important. Searching for potential copyright violations is also important, and it can be aided by Earwig's Copyvio Detector, which can be added to your toolbar for ease of use with this user script.

Château de Montsoreau-Museum of Contemporary Art

Hello JJMC89, I hope you are well. Thank you very much for reviewing this page. The Val de Loire has been listed as a WHS in 2000 for 3 noteworthy criterions : i (Architectural), ii (Outstanding landscapes), iv (Architecture illustrates the ideal of the Renaissance). The mainline of this WHS is: "The Loire Valley is an outstanding cultural landscape of great beauty, containing historic towns and villages, great architectural monuments (the châteaux), and cultivated lands formed by many centuries of interaction between their population and the physical environment, primarily the river Loire itself." The Mission Val de Loire is associated with UNESCO as an operative structure: http://whc.unesco.org/en/events/426/ . This organisation says who is part or not part of the Val de Loire WHS. The Château de Montsoreau being the only one to have been built in the riverbed at the Renaissance has been delivered the right to use its own dedicated logo mentioning it is part of the Val de Loire WHS. Thank you in advance to reconsider your choice of removing it from the Val de Loire WHS. All my best, Philippe49730--Philippe49730 (talk) 12:56, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JJMC89, I found a practical example to work with : the Château de Chambord was listed in the 80s as a WHS, and thanks to such buildings, the Val de Loire WHS has been created. It has been included in the Val de Loire WHS in 2000. Does this mean that it is not anymore a WHS? as its previous classification has been canceled by the new one. This example is just illustrating the fact the Val de Loire has been listed as a WHS thanks to its natural landscapes, but also and merely thanks to architecture. Practically the UNESCO is considering Chambord as a WHS, as it is considering a WHS all the major Renaissance castles of the Loire Valley, reason why the Val de Loire WHS has been created. All my very best, Philippe49730--Philippe49730 (talk) 12:54, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As you've already been told, the château is not itself a UNESCO site. — JJMC89 02:02, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the same editor keeps removing the tags and appears to not understand why the article was tagged in the first place. I just tried tagging sections to see what happens but it looks like we're going to need an expert to help with this one. Know anyone who speaks Vietnamese? Atsme📞📧 17:45, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Atsme: I don't. You cold look through subcategories of Category:User vi. Maybe ? — JJMC89 02:34, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Authority control

Hi JJMC89. I've seen you're quite active in Template talk:Authority control so i wanted to ask for your help regarding this new auth control id. It's being used already in wikipedia in spanish, and since many articles also exists in this wikipedia, i think it would benefit having the ID in the template. Regards and thanks in advance.--Zeroth (talk) 18:15, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Replied there. — JJMC89 02:58, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Papers to The Post (film)

I am trying to move the article The Papers to The Post (film) as that is now the title of the picture. Could you delete the redirect so the move can be done? Rusted AutoParts 03:59, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Judy Tyrus

Hello. I was wondering why you deleted Judy Tyrus as a notable alumni on the page for Kennedy High School in Richmond, California: John F. Kennedy High School (Richmond, California). (snip) Best regards -- Catherine Asaro 96.244.131.211 (talk) 00:32, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It was removed per WP:WTAF. Persons listed as notable alumni should already have an article about them before being included. — JJMC89 01:45, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How would I go about getting that done? I've only set up a few minor articles here, so I'm not really a Wikipedia editor. I don't know if my articles are experienced enough. This is the last one I did: Frank Asaro. It's about my father, though, so I had all the information and picture already. I do think I can contact Judy Tyrus, however, so I could ask her for information to go on the page. Best -- Catherine 96.244.131.211 (talk) 02:04, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If Tyrus is notable, you can create a draft through the Wikipedia:Article wizard. You shouldn't base an article on information from the subject; articles should be based on independent, reliable sources. — JJMC89 02:08, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reference. That looks good. Part of the difficulty is that Ms. Tyrus is now the curator of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. In other words, she is the person you contact to get information, articles, and pictures about former dancers in DTH. I suspect that is why it's hard to find information about her in general as a DTH dancer, since it would be seen as promoting herself with her position. Any suggestions for how to proceed?
