Pomacanthus maculosus
Pomacanthus maculosus, commonly known as the yellowbar angelfish, is a species in the marine angelfish family, Pomacanthidae, found in the western Indian Ocean and, more recently, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It has a deep and compressed body with a small mouth that is equipped with small bristle-like teeth. The background colour of adults is brownish blue with each scale having a blue margin creating the impression that it is predominantly blue. There is an uneven, yellow bar close to the centre of the flanks with dark blue, vertically elongated spots towards the head. The species is occasionally collected for the aquarium trade and has also been recorded on sale as food in fish markets. This P. maculosus fish was photographed in Ras Muhammad National Park in the Red Sea off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.Photograph credit: Diego Delso

Thank you

Thank you for giving me this second chance. It really had me worried, but it is a great relief to be back. Once again, thanks. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.118.187.102 (talkcontribs) 20:57, October 4, 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again

You have saved us again by lifing the block. You are definitly the best. I wish Wikipedia would have more of your type around here. Thanks, Coveritus

Unfortunate event

Yes, I have looked over it well. I had already stated, though, that I was not the contributor of the vandalism, so it was unnecessary to revert the page. It turns out that my friend, 07p71, has the same IP address and found my password, and thus vandalised under my name -.- Thank you anyway, though, for your concern.

-Coveritus

Thanks

Hello there. Thank you for lifting the autoblock. That IP address is used by all the computers at my school and people tend to do stupid things on Wikipedia. Thanks again. Boaf 16:39, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removing autoblocks

Just curious: is there some way of lifting autoblocks I'm not aware of? I thought you had to lift the actual numbered block, as below.

06:19, October 8, 2006 Slowking Man (Talk | contribs | block) unblocked #271154 (Username autoblock (from my block))

However, you're doing this.

05:32, October 8, 2006 Netsnipe (Talk | contribs | block) unblocked 198.54.202.254 (contribs) (Autoblock of Adriaan90)

Does Mediawiki lift autoblocks on an IP if that IP's corresponding account is unblocked? If so, that'd be good to know for the future. Never thought I'd go two years as an admin while not knowing something about Mediawiki, but I guess you learn something new every day. ;) --Slowking Man 16:08, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Autoblock numbers are just masked IP addresses. That's why you need ask autoblocked people to provide you with their IP address using {{autoblock}}. As far as I know, you can unblock using either. --  Netsnipe   ►  16:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's neat. Thanks for the help. --Slowking Man 16:48, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the unblock

thanks for the unblock!! :) But can you help me to rectify this problem because I've been repeatedly blocked for my 'ip address'. Is there such a thing as blocking ip address except for those users that have already been in wikipedia for some time and not done anything wrong? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jikbusai (talkcontribs) 16:34, October 8, 2006 (UTC)

No. There's nothing much you can do since you edit Wikipedia using the same IP with thousands of other Singaporeans on StarHub, and among those thousands, there's a lot of serial vandals on the same network. The only way to truly bypass the autoblocker is to your get your own separate IP address. If StarHub lets you, you can try disabling the use of StarHub's HTTP proxy server in your web browser. --  Netsnipe   ►  16:45, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User Block for rueben_lys

You have declined my request for having the unblock my user id sating the following reasons: "Decline reason: "10 hour block has already expired. Secondly, I agree with Zoe's 10 hour block which was intended as a time out. You simply do not remove tags such as {{context}} that indicate an article requires improvement while you are still writing it. Tags such as {{context}} are there to inform other editors of an incomplete article that they can work on improving. You do not own Raid on Jaffna University or any other article as set out in Wikipedia:Ownership of articles. Even you yourself admit here that the article was unfinished. This was simply a procedural matter which you overreacted over. Zoe (who is an administrator) has nothing to answer for since this was in no way a content dispute. You however, clearly violated the Wikipedia:Three revert rule and Wikipedia:Civility here by threatening to have another user blocked when you have no policy to cite or authority to do so. -- Netsnipe ► 13:28, 9 October 2006 (UTC)"

While admittedly there's no point in pursuing the block now, I

  • a. Find it surprising that you find me as having threatened to block Zoe, where as it was the other way around. I asked Zoe to inform me how I may complain against her conduct which I found confrontational (having threatened to block me)- she did not answer this.
  • b. I was in the process of adding the context (as has been done now) when I was blocked by Zoe.
  • c. The due process, I believe would have been to protect the page.
  • d. You find me as having violated the three reverts rule whereas it was Zoe.
  • e. Admittedly, I over reacted initially to Zoe's edit, but Zoe did not invite a discussion, and essentially proceeded to block me to preserve the page, thereby enforcing her personal viewpoint on the quality of the article. Zoe became involved in an edit dispute (context dispute or not) and essentially enforced her view as to adequateness of the article's introduction, and thus enforced her judgement on the quality of the article.
  • f. I do not claim ownership over wikipedia articles, but find it surprising that an administrator seem to do so.
  • g. Your assertion that Zoe does not have anything to answer to seems to be essentially a carte-blanche to allow an administrator to act in any manner as they may chose without following the wikipedia guidelines that have been laid down. I have been involved in a number of disputes before, which I have been able to settle through talk page discussion.
  • h. Your opinion forces me to cast doubt on your judgement and also calls into question the integrity of Wikipedia's wikiness.
  • i. see Controversial_blocks
  • j. Also see arbitration.

- Rueben lys 17:25, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After reexamining what I had written, I have to admit that I misread the situation after having my judgement clouded from being infuriated with the notion that anyone would threaten to take anyone to the Arbitration Committee over a {{context}} tag. In my opinion, it's still a spiteful move and as Wikipedia:Resolving disputes states, should only be used a final resort. I respectfully retract my statement and apologise for any hurt caused. --  Netsnipe   ►  17:54, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reference suggestions: thanks

Thanks for the input on references on my "eltmann" article. I DO appreciate it. After having reviewed the suggested resources, I remain perplexed on how to do it, and moreover can see no benefit to changing the current format. Perhaps someone else may have the interest and energy to make this change. This is my first article, so I'm afraid I'm not up to speed. Sorry.--NDM 07:49, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am one of the ICT Technicians at the school, and have had to edit the article. If you would look at the Article history you will see that some pupils, who we have identified and excluded from school added obscene remarks about the school and headteacher. I have been asked by the network manager and Headteacher to get the article removed and all history deleted due to the comments made. Regards —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Luke213 (talkcontribs) 13:01, October 10, 2006 (UTC)

Hi again, We have tried to e-mail to the link provided and seem to get an error about delivery. Our e-mail server tells us that it will keep trying to deliver for 5 days, but does not get through. We are very new to Wikipedia and have necer used it before so unfortunatly don't really know the correct policies. Is it possible then, instead of delting, to lock the page from being edited. Also our Headteacher needs all the history deleting from the article, if that is possible. Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Luke213 (talkcontribs) 13:29, October 10, 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Now I can go fight some vandalism. Nwwaew(My talk page) 13:11, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You misinterpreted what I said. I was not complaining that I was blocked - I would rather have this school IP blocked than unblocked, as my school is not at all good at not breaking rules. What I was complaining about is that the blocked was increased with no notification; I actually had to go look at the block log to see why I was still blocked. I put up a {{unblock}} message, not to get unblocked (I know I probably broke a dozen rules) but to ask why there was no notification. I probably should have been more clear; my bad :(. Please reinstate the block though, for the remainder of the one month.GofG ||| Contribs 14:00, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks

My post was not a personal attack and I assure you that if you had contacted User: Madhatte prior to accusing me of such you would have found that out. The phrase "Homus Meganogginus" is a widely known term on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt. I appoligize if, as a civilian, you have never heard of this term. It is used to refer to this particular individual's rather unique condition. He is well aware of this and certainly does not take it as any type of "attack". -- User: Trassin 06:23, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for that, I'm trying to create a page to reduce the size of WP:UTM using templates to reflect what is shown on WP:TT. Looking through alot of the templates there are inconsistancies. I would be amazed were that to be the case. I am convinced now that this user is Bridgman, and while he occassionally writes reasonable edits, he also takes every opportunity to push his own view of PD pathology, which viewpoint is designed to show that his invention, viz. dopavite, should work. Even given that, he was banned principally because of his bellicosity, verbal violence, and bigotry toward anyone who expresses opinions differing from his own. To my mind, this obviates anything of scientific value he might say. --Dan 17:48, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Tibia: Ragone and Pixo

You once added to the Tibia page:

  • Ragone - The blossoming town of Ragone was dedicated to the fearless leader of the great Boondock Saints during the ancient years of Tibia during their battles against the valient monkeys. During a violent overthrow the town was taken back by the original founders, in the battle known as "The Battle at Aew Mountain" in which many men lost their lives. The town contains many mysterious monsters and creatures that have only been seen by a select few. The brave men who dared to explore into the deep parts of the town escaped with the great riches many men dream about. Smaller villages on the outlying parts of town are in memory of the two famous generals lost in battle: Pixo and Achilles.
  • Pixo - A small village on the outskirts of Ragone dedicated to General Pixo. Only those who have completed the " Treasure of Aew Mountain " quest are allowed to enter. The village of Pixo is prone to multiple raids each day and free items spawning near the depot. The favorite town of most players.

What the bleep is this all about? I never heard of these cities! Could you explain please? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.11.172.128 (talkcontribs) 17:30, October 13, 2006 (UTC)

University midterm usernames?

I gather you're aware of the 1101name06 trend we ran into, over the weekend. I've heard from one or two via email, and I think I've seen at least one unblock request, all claiming to be with some university midterm project, something along the lines of starting and maintaining an article for a week, for a journalism class. I'm inclined to believe them, I think, although I haven't heard anything from a university address. I'm a bit nervous about a bunch of brand new users with an assignment to make a page (and possibly keep us from deleting it?), but I s'pose that wouldn't be much different from standard operating procedure. Leaning towards unblocking, but figured it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion. Thoughts? Luna Santin 01:28, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thanks for nominating me for the successful RfA! And thanks for the cute {{administrator-tan}} tag on my user page. :P --Coredesat 19:55, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:Levykevandaali - unblock request

Nice call. Considering the guy calls himself "the notorious vandal from the Finnish Wikipedia"!! Glen 11:58, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So I'm guessing he didn't get unblocked then? ~ Flameviper 15:47, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Attack page warnings

Will do. Thanks. Pascal.Tesson 14:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request

I'm just wondering, is it safe to remove that notice, or am I required to leave it intact? - ¡Kribbeh!Speak!\Contribs 17:08, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks a bunch. By the by, the vandal that got that IP banned in the first place has been tracked down, and they're being dealt with by the school authorities. Not sure if anybody needed to know that or not, so I'm just passing that little tidbit of info along. - ¡Kribbeh!Speak!\Contribs 17:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks very much. Exiledone 20:21, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is that really necessary?

I appreciate that he doesn't need to be listed on LTA anymore (Since that was just notorious trolling), but do you have to remove every possibly [sic] reference to that vandal? 68.39.174.238 20:35, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

..., that's what I said above (On this page), I was referring to other discussions of him, off the main WP:LTA page. 68.39.174.238 20:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Can you protect my user page from User:Ekajati who replaced the sockpuppet template three times today? Today is the first time I removed it, but I looked through all the rules and I don't see anywhere stated the template must remain forever because of a less-than-24-hour ban a while and many edits ago. Mattisse(talk) 22:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that Mattisse is still sockpuppeting with Timmy12 and MaxReg, I'd suggest that the puppetmaster tag remain - 18 sockpuppets is a history. Ekajati (yakity-yak) 22:59, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can they accuss me of being a sockpuppet like Timmy12 without using CheckUser first? Aren't there rules? That was an administrator that did that. I don't understand. Mattisse(talk) 00:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey dont worry mate, Im an admin and Ive just been accussed too! Glen 00:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Check out User talk:Timmy12 talk page. Mattisse(talk) 00:28, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked Ekajati (talkcontribs) to refer his case against you to Checkuser so that your name can hopefully be cleared. --  Netsnipe  ►  14:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The CheckUser thing was just used September 21. I didn't know about it at the time as no one notified me. I got this off User:Timmy12's talk page:
See Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Mattisse (3rd); note that at least one univolved editor does not see a sockpuppet relationship. Please do not accuse people of being a sockpuppet unless you have substantial and credible evidence, prefereably in the form of a CheckUser. Guy 15:39, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, can you remove the sockpuppet template from Talk:Maratha clan system where it was put each time I made a comment -- to discredit me I guess? This has been going on and I have not said anything about this harassment. But I cannot handle it any longer without help. Mattisse(talk) 15:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Plus, see yesterday's discussion: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Puppetmaster_User:Mattisse.7CMattisse_repeatedly_removing_puppetmaster_tag.
Plus my pathetic addition: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#I_have_am_extra_complaint. (At least I am getting the hang of constructing these links.) Please tell me who to go to for help. This is only a small part of what has been happening. Is there not someone I can go to for help? Mattisse(talk) 16:17, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

0111 unblock?

You said: "Hey Yamla, 0111 (talke-mailcontribspage movesblock userblock log) is asking for a second chance, and now that he's a bit more repentant after being blocked for over a month, I'm inclined to give him that second chance. What do you say?"

I agree that the user appears repentant and so I've unblocked him. Thanks for pointing this out to me. --Yamla 14:15, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks very much for the unblock and the welcome! Pfainuk 14:43, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tracker, I was trying to think of ways to implement it on my user page. I ended up swiping the infobox code from this talk page to do it, though (sorry). :P --Coredesat 22:16, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dear friend, thanks for unblocking me, i will do my best to met the standards of wikipedia; in spite of my disability. You are a kind soul and have restored my faith in wikipedia. I live in chronic pain that limits my ability to walk, stand, and even sit, but I appreciate the opportunity to be a member of the community of wikipedians. you are of higher quality then most american members, who are quick to judge and quick to hate. i hope my contributions not only involve facts but means and methods to improve our world.

The issue I have here is that username policy says it isn't allowed if it *could* be considered offensive and obviously there are some people who already have been offended by that. Good intent doesn't matter here, you can pick "faggot" for a username and claim it was done in good intent and is referring to a bundle of sticks, but that doesn't make it an appropriate username choice. Though i still think this is a sock, I'd be willing to assume good faith and lift the block if the user changes his name. Thet would then end any type of suspicion that the username is racist and hopefully put the whole issue to bed. pschemp | talk 01:56, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My case has not been referred to check user as you had indicated it had been

So nothing of help to me has happened. As I stated above, it was referred to checkuser on September 20 and was cleared. So does this mean that I should move on to other avenues of help (of my own random choosing, since you have suggested none). Just tell me outright if that is the case. I would much appreciate the true. Thanks! Mattisse(talk) 03:09, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, responded here to your message: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Mass_external_linking_to_libcom.org

I can understand why this would flag up since it's external links, but correcting broken links added by other users after a site update ought not to be classed as "spamming", and that was the majority of my activity. I added some more links to articles whilst browsing, but most of libcom.org's content cannot be found elsewhere on-line and deals with very specialist subjects - i.e. linking stubs to much longer articles on the subject etc. which I believe is well within wikipedia's policies. The prison one you mentioned might have been me getting carried away though ;) Having said that, I don't remember which article, but in at least one case I removed duplicate links to content with different titles - again it seems an inappropriate course of action considering the nature of the edits Catch 17:40, 20 October 2006 (UTC) Catch 17:35, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scruffy

Hi there; I am the editor who had the to and fro communication about scruffy the dog. While I retract nothing that I said, isn't a permanent block on the editor User:Tenchwood Pie a bit harsh?--Anthony.bradbury 19:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The external link that you deleted from the Floyd Landis page does not point to a commercial site but rather points to a blog. The blog contains discussions of and references to other discussions of technical and regulatory details of the drug testing in Floyd Landis' case. The blog is authored by an individual with extensive professional experience in both toxicology and US Federal and international regulations for testing standards. Content in the cited blog makes *heavy* use of peer reviewed literature. I am not certain how you construed the blog as a "commercial link" or "advertising."

I'm also not clear on the restriction of "your own private websites" as you say. Private, as opposed to public? I would think that any web site visible to the public is public; certainly the server settings would show (r--). And what about your phrase, "your own"? How this murky ownership standard that you invoke might work is simply unclear. For example, if a NYT shareholder posted a link to an informative NYT article, would it violate this "your own" principle? I've not seen such an official Wikipedia policy on the relevance of link ownership to constribution. The ambiguous wording of it leads me to doubt its credibility.

I feel your edit was perhaps in the right spirit in some respect but ultimately a little bit overaggressive. I think your deletion invokes Wikipedia rules that simply do not exist.
