Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary categorization. There isn't another state with this type tennis subcategory ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 22:55, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Just split more--I started this scheme but haven't finished it. There are a lot of American tennis players and this keeps them from being in the scheme of American coaches by sport and state. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 23:14, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:25, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: rename, replacing an anachronistic nationality by contemporary 17th-century terminology. The Khmelnytsky Uprising was clearly a rebellion of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. If renamed, we should also add or change some parent categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:24, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 April 10#Category:Viking_Age_in_Scotland. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:33, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge or reverse merge, it is unclear how to distinguish between the two categories. I have tagged both categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:19, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did read it, but I can 't see how it helps the Scottish tree to have a break in the 11th century while Scandinavian rule lasted much longer here. Any break, whether in 1000 or in 1100, would be entirely arbitrary. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:23, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to @Peterkingiron: suggestion of Category:Scandinavian rule in Scotland. Who's to say when the Viking Age began or ended? Rule is quantifiable. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:51, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment See main article Viking Age, which states with sources that it began in 789 (the first known Viking raid) and ends with the death of Harald Hardrada in 1066. While Norse people, Normans, and various offshoots continued to play a role in European politics, Vikings did not survive the 11th century. "The assimilation of the nascent Scandinavian kingdoms into the cultural mainstream of European Christendom altered the aspirations of Scandinavian rulers and of Scandinavians able to travel overseas, and changed their relations with their neighbours. One of the primary sources of profit for the Vikings had been slave-taking. The medieval Church held that Christians should not own fellow Christians as slaves, so chattel slavery diminished as a practice throughout northern Europe. This took much of the economic incentive out of raiding, though sporadic slaving activity continued into the 11th century. Scandinavian predation in Christian lands around the North and Irish Seas diminished markedly.". Dimadick (talk) 16:16, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • I can imagine that a distinction could be made between occasional Viking raids on the one hand (e.g. for getting slaves) and Norse permanent occupation and colonisation of territories on the other hand. However for Scotland specifically this distinction does not make too much sense, since parts of Schotland were subject to occupation and colonisation all the time. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:01, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge as proposed - to fit article Scandinavian Scotland.GreyShark (dibra) 16:56, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: That a species (e.g. Savannah forest tree frog, Berber toad, Sahara frog) is found in a particular country is WP:NON-DEFINING.   Example similar CFDs. DexDor (talk) 10:01, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The 3 I've nominated are the only amphibians-by-region categories in those parts of Africa. There are about another hundred (e.g. ACT, French Guiana) - that's IMO too many to cfd in one go - especially when complications are considered (e.g. countries such as Turkey that span 2 continents). DexDor (talk) 06:39, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Comment We have a List of transcontinental countries, but few modern countries qualify, only 28. They are: Australia, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Denmark (with Greenland), East Timor, Egypt, France, Georgia, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, the United States, Venezuela, and Yemen. Our list notably excludes Armenia and Cyprus, which are also considered Eurasian: "The Council of Europe includes the Eurasian countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia, Russia and Turkey. It notes that "two Council of Europe member States, Turkey and Russia, belong geographically to both Europe and Asia and are therefore Eurasian. Strictly speaking, the three South Caucasus States, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are located in Asia, yet their membership of political Europe is no longer in doubt." "Dimadick (talk) 09:54, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's straying a bit off-topic. DexDor (talk) 18:00, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The intention is to delete all country-specific categories on Amphibians and merge them to continent-wide categories. The above are the only current countries which have areas in multiple continents and may require merges to more than one? How is off-topic? Dimadick (talk) 09:42, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This CFD is for 3 categories. If you want to do a much larger CFD for amphibians (or anything else) then please go ahead. DexDor (talk) 18:12, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
