Mandala Airlines is a scheduled, domestic airline based in Jakarta in Indonesia.

History
Mandala Airlines was established and started operations in 1969. It was owned 90% by Yayasan Dharma Putra Kostrad and 10% shared by Dharma, Kencana, Sakti and Nusamba. It has a total of 1322 employees. Mandala is a member of the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association endorsable ticket system allowing passengers to use tickets on any of the participating carriers. As of April 2005, Cardig International is the sole owner of Mandala Airlines.
Incidents and accidents

- On September 5, 2005, a Boeing 737-200 aircraft operated by the Indonesian budget carrier Mandala Airlines crashed very shortly after takeoff from Medan's Polonia International Airport in a densely populated area of Medan in North Sumatera (Sumatra, Indonesia). Current estimates [2] state that 104 people on the airplane died, including the governor of North Sumatra province, Tengku Rizal Nurdin (all but 13 were killed on impact) and at least 39 more people in the city were killed. Unknown numbers were injured and no current estimates of property damage are known. Accurate details will take time. The plane that crashed was PK-RIM, an ex Lufthansa aircraft. It was formerly known as D-ABHK "Bayreuth" built in 1981.
- On October 3, 2006, another Mandala 737-200 flying from Balikpapan skidded 50 meters off the runway at Tarakan. There were no injuries. Visibility was below 400 meters at the time due to heavy haze. [3]
