The Kapoors trace their origins to the city of Peshawar in what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Prithviraj Kapoor, the first of the family to pursue acting, was born in 1901 in the town of Samundri near Lyallpur, in the Punjab province of then British India (now in Pakistan). Though all three of Prithviraj Kapoor's sons, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor, became actors, it is Raj Kapoor's descendants who have carried on the family legacy. Randhir Kapoor's and Babita's daughters, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, have found success in the film industry. Rishi Kapoor's son, Ranbir Kapoor is Kareena and Karisma's cousin with Riddhima Kapoor Sahani and made his debut in 2007 in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya.
