New Photo
Pinging @IronManCap:, @TriiipleThreat: and other users: The image is from Iron Man 2. That was 11 years ago, It is extremely outdated. Since pages like Scott Lang and Wanda Maximoff are getting updated with a new movie/series, Why not update the IM2 image? ChannelSpider (talk) 10:36, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think it looks OK as a spy-type image, but if an alternative is found, I have no objections. IronManCap (talk) 10:41, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Alright. ChannelSpider (talk) 10:42, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think its fine as well but I would not necessarily be opposed to a new one. However, I disagree with the notion that we should always use the most up to date image. At WP:CMOS#BOXIMAGE, we use "the most universally recognizable appearance of a character". I know this might be problematic with Romanoff since her look changes with every appearance but I think her most common running trait has red hair and a black suit as opposed to say blonde or the white suit. Scott Lang's costume hasn't changed that much and I'd argue that Wanda's costume is too recent per WP:RECENTISM (appearing in just the finale episode of her most recent appearance).--TriiipleThreat (talk) 12:13, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Wanda and Wilson's images were changed as they took up new superhero mantles, both of which only happened in their last episode, but are the defining aspects of those characters. Lang's image was changed because his face wasn't visible. Like I said, there isn't really a need to change Romanoff's image, as she doesn't change too much and doesn't take up a new mantle, but again, I'm not opposed. - Like thismaybe? (If you can see it) Jhenderson 777 18:01, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Promo image of the the Winter Soldier that I edited and linked may work. Low quality version of course.Jhenderson 777 18:07, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Something like this? —El Millo (talk) 18:37, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Doesn't show up for me for some reason. I found images like this and this (to be cropped) suitable. IronManCap (talk) 18:55, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- I am thinking the second one where she folds arms works best so far. Jhenderson 777 18:59, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Jhenderson777: You mean the first one? IronManCap (talk) 19:07, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- I am thinking the second one where she folds arms works best so far. Jhenderson 777 18:59, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- The first one of yours...yes. When I said second I included Facu-el Millo's linked image too. I liked the explosion background image but I am not sure it will work for the mainpage. @Facu-el Millo:, I thought we could edit fair use images regarding backgrounds blanking and cropping but don’t quote me on that. Even then it should be noted that it was. Presumably on the portion part of the rationale. Jhenderson 777 19:19, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Romanova or Romanoff
Black Widow is called Natasha Romanova in the comic books but was changed to Romanoff for the MCU. Does anyone know why? I think that is an interesting piece of info that could be added to the page. Also Romanoff is a male last name while Romanova is a female last name. So they changed it from correct to incorrect for whatever reason and that's weird.
I added it to the page but it was removed as unsourced. I don't know how to source that she is named Romanova in all other incarnations, or the concept of gendered russian last names. I did link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surnames_in_Russia which explains how russian last names work, but that's not enough? 2A00:EE2:907:FF00:257A:3C44:E0C6:2007 (talk) 23:23, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- You need a reliable source pointing out the fact that it was changed and that it is "incorrect" in order to include it. —El Millo (talk) 23:36, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Are you kidding me? There's another character page in this very same Wikipedia that talks about Natasha Romanova. And they changed it to "Romanoff" probably because it rolls off the tongue better. Oh; and the character herself could have changed her name as a thing, not the people at Marvel. 68.50.116.194 (talk) 20:10, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
Also, Marvel has two universes here: the cinematic universe, and the comic universe (And other non-canon universes too, but I won't show them here). And another thing: the What If...? (TV series)] was created by Marvel. However, I'm not sure if this is canon or non-canon, because it has some events that could be both. 68.50.116.194 (talk) 20:19, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
It's Natalia Romanoff, not "Natasha Romanoff". Natalie Romanoff is the Western equivalent of her name; however, people (the ones that know of her existence, since she was in hiding) rather call her 'Natasha', 'Romanoff'. It's all really complicated but I hope you get it. 68.50.116.194 (talk) 20:19, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
