I don't think it is necessary to report them frequently, and I personally would like to see at least 10 obvious accounts (with blanking and username) before it could be made more a satisfying task for the CUs than a tedious bureaucratic necessity. I do check the user creation log, but I usually only check mobile creations because that's usually where the socks are. Some other accounts that were created in the same timeframe and also rearrangements of previous sock names (The six above this reply are already blocked on jawiki for sockpuppetry):

Per their Japanese LTA page (taken with a grain of machine translated salt):

Yes, if we are to trust machine translation, most of the Japanese names have something to do (or are similar sounding) to 'Aspergers', but some of the other names don't have relation to Aspergers or don't translate at all (Sometimes, their names also machine translate to "Tomorrow", some of them also include "North" ):
  • "UkEɔƑŋ" --> "UkEɔŋŋ"
  • "ꯑꯦꯁ꯭ꯔ꯫" --> "ꯑꯦꯁ꯭ꯔ꯫"
  • "焙犀蠍焙" --> "roasted scorpion" (or "Baked Rhinoceros Scorpion Baked"?)
  • "跖芒拜蓼渠跖" --> "蓖苒苜蓼渠蓖"
  • "ስጥየልውስ" --> "When I give it to you"

I think there are some translation issues, like not knowing the original language.

I have some more questions:
  1. What does "あすぺるがあすぺしゃりすと" really mean? I can get it to translate to "Asperger Specialist", "Asperu is Tomorrow", "tomorrow is tomorrow", and "Tomorrow's Wikipedia".
  2. Some accounts, such as Asperger'22, Aspe version2022, アスペルガー バージョン2022, Asperger version2022, or アスペ バージョン2022 are tagged as socks of ISECHIKA, are they impersonating?

It's plausible going off of this section of Isechika's page. Google Translate says he'll impersonate ASPE. Either way, they both need global locks, so I hope it doesn't matter too much one way or another which LTA it is. After looking at Special:Contributions/アスペ龍騎 & Special:Contributions/アスペルガー龍騎, it's plausible that this is Isechika. I have no clue if the CU data would be stale by now, but if any CUs passing by see this, it could be worth checking. The first is a lot closer to Special:Contributions/سرنئپ than any previously tagged socks are. It looks like they're both still active too, which doesn't make this any easier.   • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 March. It will be on all wikis from 14 March (calendar). [1][2]
  • After consulting with various communities, the line height of the text on the Minerva skin will be increased to its previous value of 1.65. Different options for typography can also be set using the options in the menu, as needed. [3]
  • The active link color in Minerva will be changed to provide more consistency with our other platforms and best practices. [4]
  • Structured data on Commons will no longer ask whether you want to leave the page without saving. This will prevent the “information you’ve entered may not be saved” popups from appearing when no information have been entered. It will also make file pages on Commons load faster in certain cases. However, the popups will be hidden even if information has indeed been entered. If you accidentally close the page before saving the structured data you entered, that data will be lost. [5]

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

Recent changes

  • The notice "Language links are at the top of the page" that appears in the Vector 2022 skin main menu has been removed now that users have learned the new location of the Language switcher. [8]
  • IP info feature displays data from Spur, an IP addresses database. Previously, the only data source for this feature was MaxMind. Now, IP info is more useful for patrollers. [9]
  • The Toolforge Grid Engine services have been shut down after the final migration process from Grid Engine to Kubernetes. [10][11][12]
  • Communities can now customize the default reasons for undeleting a page by creating MediaWiki:Undelete-comment-dropdown. [13]

Problems

  • RevisionSlider is an interface to interactively browse a page's history. Users in right-to-left languages reported RevisionSlider reacting wrong to mouse clicks. This should be fixed now. [14]

Looking at your contributions, I think you should get more experience in recent changes patrol and participate more. Currently, you have less than 50 edits that are tagged as Undo, and I don't think I would able to evaluate the request without a consistent track record. I used this link so I can click on the diffs. I must have miscounted because you didn't have less than 50. In general I am not looking for a number that you hit, but rather enough track record to evaluate how you identify different types of edits. So far you've only patrolled recent changes for a single week. List of scholarly publishing stings

Hi, oxDeadbeef. I made an addition to List of scholarly publishing stings that was reverted, and I'm trying to understand why. You noted "self published, not referenced by third parties," but at least one of the citations (a reported story by a BBC journalist) is not self-published in any sense that I'm familiar with. There is also an editorial published by a mainstream media outlet (Undark Magazine); perhaps that is also considered self-published but it seems rather different than a tweet or blog etc. Thanks for any help you can provide, I'm still new to Wikipedia editing. Yeah, sorry about that confusing edit summary. I meant that they are all primary sources. The BBC radio directly interviews the person who made the publication, the editorial is also written by the person who did it. They are not self-published, but rather primary sources. Hmm, ok. I guess I was conceptualizing the BBC Radio story more as a secondary source; it's an editor doing a story on predatory publishing who uses the author as a source. That kind of reference seems in line with the other cited references in this list, but maybe I'm missing something? There are a number of other sources I found that seem straightforwardly secondary as well though, if I'm still not understanding this. A question of sorts

Hello! I just wanted to ask for a bit of advice about edit filter manager. I'm currently an EFH since about 4 months ago, but I'm not entirely sure if I've got anywhere near enough under my belt to make an EFM request. My main motivation for this would be being able to implement changes to filters on my own, such as this, or perhaps things like this, as well as this. (All links are to the mailing list), as well as things like this. Mostly though, I'd like a bit of advice on what I should have if I was to request (the policy page is just a bit vague on any actual requirements other than consensus) EFM, and/or whether I'd be anywhere near ready. I think these link showcase good technical understanding to be considered as EFM. Given your experience helping out with edit filters, I would probably lean towards support. On the other hand, people consider EFM to be a high-trust position, and sometimes are harsher when they evaluate EFM candidates compared to RfA candidates. It all comes down to trust, and that can be hard to gauge. I would probably just encourage you to be BOLD and see it it turns out fine. (And there were indeed times where people felt I was being too fast with requesting certain permissions back then, it didn't really hurt my wikicareer as I took their advice and found out how to contribute in a way that works for me) 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 11:31, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Harvici, sorry for the slightly late reply. This is indeed a policy specific to English Wikipedia. See WP:CHECKME. The reason is that even if a CheckUser went a take a look, it is not 100% proof that someone is truly innocent. And there are privacy reasons for why we'd want to avoid unnecessary checks.   • Web browsers can use tools called extensions. There is now a Chrome extension called Citation Needed which you can use to see if an online statement is supported by a Wikipedia article. This is a small experiment to see if Wikipedia can be used this way. Because it is a small experiment, it can only be used in Chrome in English.
  • A new Edit Recovery feature has been added to all wikis, available as a user preference. Once you enable it, your in-progress edits will be stored in your web browser, and if you accidentally close an editing window or your browser or computer crashes, you will be prompted to recover the unpublished text. Please leave any feedback on the project talk page. This was the #8 wish in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey.
  • Initial results of Edit check experiments have been published. Edit Check is now deployed as a default feature at the wikis that tested it. Let us know if you want your wiki to be part of the next deployment of Edit check. [25][26]
  • Readers using the Minerva skin on mobile will notice there has been an improvement in the line height across all typography settings. [27]
