Dravidians as black people

An editor has added a gallery of images of Dravidians and other disparate populations to the black people article, arguing that they are all typically classified as "black people" based on their often-times dark skin coloration. I have argued that this is a fringe idea analogous to the Afrocentric "Africoid" concept and that the wikipage wasn't originally intended for this purpose. Input/feedback on this issue from members of this wikiproject and its sub-projects would be appreciated. Soupforone (talk) 02:53, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kachi disambiguation

It seems to me that Kachi should be made into a disambiguation page, considering all the similarly-sounding entries. Of course, most of that is due to the problems inherent with transcribing South Asian languages into English. I'm not sure what most of the names involved are spelt like originally, but it appears that more than one of these terms reflects something like kacch-. I don't know if and how they relate to each other, though, for example if the Kachi Plain has any connection with Kutch, so I'm a bit lost here. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 18:08, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RFC on Indo-Canadians in Vancouver

RFC at: Talk:Indo-Canadians#Merge_discussion: Should Indo-Canadians in British Columbia and Indo-Canadians in Greater Vancouver be separate or should the latter be merged into the former?

Another question: Would it count as WP:SYNTH to have a dedicated article on the Indo-Canadian population of Metro Vancouver? (Vancouver, Surrey, and other Vancouver suburbs) WhisperToMe (talk) 06:21, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Media upload of historical photographs of various countries in South Asia

Dear editors,

I would like to draw your attention to a media upload that may be of relevance to this page:

The Temminck Groll Collection consists of 2,641 historical photographs taken by the Dutch architect and architectural historian Coen Temminck Groll (1925-2015). The photos were taken in regions with which the Dutch have had historical relations, including countries in Africa, South America and Southeast Asia (see the category description for a full listing). The photos were taken during Temminck Groll's travels and study of 'shared cultural heritage' (heritage of the Netherlands located outside the country’s borders) and mainly date to the 1960s and 1970s. The photographs were digitised by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands and made available to Wikimedia Commons in the context of the project The Netherlands and the world. If you have any questions about this upload, or have other media requests regarding Dutch shared cultural heritage, don't hesitate to leave a message at the project page!

South Asia or Indian subcontinent as a description of location

Hi, I have been involved at a discussion with @Highpeaks35: about the lede of our article on Bengal, and whether we should say that it's a region in South Asia, or in the Indian subcontinent. The page history shows that a number of editors have been reverting back and forth between the two phrases, with Highpeaks35 most recently changing it back to their preferred phrase and adding a note asking editors not to change it. To summarise the discussion, Highpeaks35 has argued that it's a historical region, so we should use the Indian subcontinent because it is a more historically valid description; I have argued that the article makes it clear that Bengal still exists as a region (albeit not a country), and so we should use modern parlance in the lede when describing where it is. My feeling is that South Asia would be the more commonly used term these days (and quick Google Scholar/Google Books searches seem to back that up), but I'd be grateful for others to give their thoughts on the talk page. This can probably be closed: I've proposed an alternative form of words that uses both terms, which seems (so far) to be acceptable to all parties. GirthSummit (blether) 18:13, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Writing a New Article, Social Entrepreneurship in South Asia

Social entrepreneurship has become a buzzword in the United States and represents a growing movement of businesses that can capitalize on social good. While exciting to see here, I feel like we often don’t hear about its existence in other parts of the world. South Asian countries represent a rapidly developing market, where entrepreneurship, specifically social entrepreneurship, is being adopted in wide numbers. These social entrepreneurial businesses are focused on solving social problems in a meaningful way. They are also helping to catalyze a people-centric economy, focused on developing capabilities first before making a profit. South Asia is also not a newcomer to social entrepreneurship. Unbeknownst to a larger Western audience, the pioneer of microcredit, Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and Nobel Peace Prize winner, is from Bangladesh. Therefore, there is a lot of history in the region, and I’d like to explore that along with the current climate and the challenges of social entrepreneurship.

Key areas of my current proposal can be found on my Sandbox page.

Please give me your feedback!
