Championship

The Mobiline Phone Pals, with imports Silas Mills and Artemus McClary, defeated Formula Shell Turbochargers, led by John Best and Donald Williams, 67-66, in a one-game finale of the special PBA conference called Centennial Cup. both teams played in a finals rematch during the Governor's Cup, the Phone Pals lost in the finals series that went the full limit of seven games.

Before the start of the season, coach Tommy Manotoc has hired three-time MVP William Adornado as one of his assistant coaches.

Signed Purefoods coach Eric Altamirano a four year contract to start coaching the Phone Pals beginning the Commissioner's Cup on May 22, Altamirano's contract with Purefoods expired on March 31.

Notable dates

May 29: Terquin Mott scored 50 points as the Phone Pals pick up their first win in three games, winning over Shell, 94-90, Mott replaces Alex Fraser, who failed to give the team a single victory in the Commissioner's Cup.

August 30: Silas Mills and Tee McClary scored 26 points each in Mobiline's 78-76 win over San Miguel in both team's first game in the Centennial Cup.

November 22: Arranged a repeat title-clash with Shell in the Governor's Cup, by beating Purefoods, 84-80 in a double knockout game among four semifinalists, the Turbo Chargers won over the San Miguel Beermen in the second game.
