Jayendra Vishnu Thakur (Marathi: जयेन्द्र ठाकुर or भाई ठाकुर) most commonly known as Bhai Thakur is a don who was in jail for many years from Vasai-Virar, Mumbai.[1][2]

Personal life

He is elder brother of politician and chairman of regional political party Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi (BVA), Hitendra Thakur. His nephew Kshitij Thakur is MLA from Nalasopara.[3]

Career

His men are scattered in every village in the Vasai-Virar belt. He lost an eye in attack by a rival Virar gang. He has used by all political parties for polls. In 1990 successfully fielded brother Hitendra Thakur in Vidhan Sabha elections. He sought the help of the builder lobby to contact the then chief minister, Sharad Pawar and also sometimes from Indian National Congress and BJP. It is also said that Petroleum Minister Ram Naik took his help in the last two Lok Sabha polls through his brother Hitendra.[4]

Crimes and conviction

He was accused in the Suresh Dube and Nizam Ansari murder case in 1989.[5][6][7]

The list of cases against Jayendra alia is long - extortion, criminal intimidation, attempt to murder, murder and land grab.

He had been once part of the Dawood Ibrahim gang and was in jail for many years when he was booked under TADA. Like Pappu Kalani, he too was put behind bars after Sudhakarrao Naik took over as Chief Minister.[8][9]
