The Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) was a franchise cricket team based in Pune, Maharashtra, India, which played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2016 and 2017.[2] It was one of the eight teams which were competing in the 2017 Indian Premier League. RPS was captained for the season by Steve Smith and coached by Stephen Fleming. The team lost the final to Mumbai Indians by 1 run, which was the team's last game in the IPL.[3][4]

Pre-Season

  • The RPS management axed MS Dhoni as captain and Steve Smith was appointed captain barely months before the start of the 2017 season.[5]
  • The franchise then changed their name to Rising Pune Supergiant, removing the 's', on 26 March 2017.[6]
