Spain national football team results (1920–1939)
The Spain national football team represents Spain in international association football and is controlled by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Between 1920 and 1929, Spain played in 32 matches, resulting in 23 victories, 4 draws and five defeats. This does not include the match against Portugal when they played a B-squad while the main squad played against Italy.[1]
During the first ten years, Spain played in three international football tournaments with the team competing in the 1920, 1924 and 1928 Olympic Games with the best result being a silver medal at the 1920 games after Czechoslovakia was disqualified from the tournament due to the officiating of the match. The other two Olympic tournaments saw the national team eliminated in the first round (1924) and the quarter-finals (1928).

Unofficial match
In May 1927, Spain played a friendly against Portugal in Madrid[6][7][8] on the same day as they played Italy in Rome.[9][10][11][12] The squad for the Italy game was more experienced and considered to be stronger, while several players in the Portugal match made their debuts; consequently the Spain team is considered to have been equivalent to its B team[1] (although they won their match while the A team lost theirs)[12] and thus not a full international, although the match is included in some media articles relating to the rivalry and in some statistical tallies of caps for the players involved.[13][14][15][16]
