Abortion in Cuba
Appearance
Abortion in Cuba is legal and available upon request,[1] which is rare in Latin America due to widespread Catholic influence.[citation needed] For example, abortion is illegal in Chile, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. Dr. Sosa Marin of the National Commission for Family Planning has stated "the right to abort is the right of women and their partners".[2]
In 2009, there were 84,724 reported abortions in Cuba. The current abortion laws in Cuba were adopted in 1968.[3]
