Abu Bakr (Template:Lang-ar) was a sahabah, one of the companions of Muhammad and the first Caliph of Islam. His real name was Abdullah or Abul-Kaaba and Abu Bakr was his kunya. Abu Bakr translates as one who does things the earliest, a name given since he was the first adult man to believe in Muhammad's teachings without question or doubt.

The name is widely used by Sunni Muslims. Other transliterations include Abu Bakar, Abu Bekr, Ebubekir, Aboubacar etc. The two parts of the name can be written together, hyphenated, or separately. He was also father-in-law of Muhammad through Aisha.
