Cărpiniș (Template:Lang-hu) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Cărpiniș and Iecea Mică (Kisjécsa). It also included Iecea Mare village until it was split off to form a separate commune in 2004.

Name

In German, it is known as Gertianosch or Gertjanosch, in Hungarian as Gyertyámos, and in Serbian as Карпиниш / Karpiniš.

Localization

Cărpiniș is situated on DN59A at a distance of 27.9 km from Timișoara and 15,3 km from Jimbolia, the closest city. Cărpiniș has a CFR Train station for the line Cărpiniș-Timișoara and Cărpiniș-Ionel.

History

In year 1387 Cărpiniș is documentary certified. Like in many other villages from Banat, Cărpiniș was colonized by German families from the Habsburg Empire (around the year 1767).

Economy

Cărpiniș is one of the biggest villages in Timiș County, having a big influence on the economies of the surrounding villages and a clear urban evolution.
