Earl Warren College

Earl Warren College is one of the six undergraduate colleges at the University of California at San Diego and is named after the three term California Governor and former Chief Justice of the United States Earl Warren. Warren College emphasizes the importance of living a balanced life. Founded in 1974, Warren College seeks to create academically balanced scholars. By sorting all courses into three disciplines, math/physical sciences, social sciences, and the humanities, Warren College allows students to pursue a major of their choice in any discipline while requiring the completion of two Programs of Concentration (PofCs), each composed of six, 4-unit courses, in the other two disciplines (e.g., a history major could take six classes in political science and six classes in biology as well). Student looking towards an Engineering, B.S. degree, however, are required to complete two Area Studies (A/S), each comprising three, 4-unit courses, and at least one of which must be upper-division. Similar to PofCs, Area Studies must be non-contiguous to the student's major and to each other.

Warren College is home to a large number of engineering students because its general education requirements are more lenient for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering. Coincidentally, Warren also has the largest student population, with well over 4,000 undergraduate students, comprising over one fifth of the college population. In 2006, the college has added a new building dedicated to the study of Information Technology, called Calit2. Warren College's core writing course incorporates general college level writing for students over two quarters.

All of the residence halls for Warren College students are named after other judges that sat on the court with Warren during his term in the U.S. Supreme Court. Residence halls are located near the ecological reserve which is a canyon filled with eucalyptus trees, hiking trails, and ravenous hobos.

Residence Halls include:

• Stewart is full of dorks. (and is rumored to be haunted by a ghost, which residents have affectionately called "Stewie")
• Frankfurter is the best at giving head and hosting righteous keg parties.
• Harlan is full of beautiful people. In addition, most second floor residents possess beastly Ping-Pong skills, including its own little Romanian Ping-Pong god, Adrian Tamas (currently showering). Also, Harlan is the home of the Goombas, the absolutely most awesomemest, bestest volleyball team on this side of Jacobs Engineering Building.
• Pegasus is well known for his bandana and strikingly handsome gaze.
• Ruthless is the most well known rapper on campus. She is said to be the next Kanye West. Her beats have been compared to Timbaland and is gaining quite the following there at Warren College

There are also graduate student apartments available at the Warren Campus.

Student Life

Warren College also played home to Warren College Television (WCTV) - the number 1 rated campus television station for 3 years. It's currently on hiatus until further notice.

College Philosophy

Reflecting Earl Warren's tenure as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Warren College's official motto is "Toward a Life in Balance."
