The community was made extinct when the Patoka Reservoir was built in 1978.[2] It now currently lies underwater beneath the lake.

History

Ellsworth was platted in 1885. It is named for James M. Ellis, a landowner.[3]

A post office was established at Ellsworth in 1878, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1916.[4]
