In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the fire bat is a type of elemental creature.

Publication history

The firebat first appeared in the adventure module The Ghost Tower of Inverness (1979).[1] The fire bat appeared in the original first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[2]

The fire bat appeared in second edition for the Planescape setting in Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix III (1998).[3]

The fire bat appeared in the third edition Monster Manual II (2002).[4]

Description

A fire bat is a denizen of the Elemental Plane of Fire which has a flaming bat-like body, about two feet long with a wingspan of almost four feet. A fire bat attaches itself to prey with its razor-sharp fangs, burning and bleeding its victim; a fire bat will reproduce by fission after gorging itself on blood.
