List of Indian reserves in Canada by population

Indigenous North Americas Canada portal |
This is a list of Indian reserves in Canada which have over 500 people, listed in order of population from data collected during the 2006 Census of Canada.[1] Approximately 40% of First Nations people live on federally recognized Indian reserves.[2] Note: this list is incomplete in that many Indian Reserves are "Incompletely enumerated", meaning that "enumeration was not permitted or was interrupted before it could be completed."[3] There are 13 Indian reserves which have not been enumerated in the last 3 censuses.[4] Some of these are quite large. The largest reserve in Canada, Six Nations 40, Ontario for example is one of these 13 reserves. It has around 20,000 people. Along with Six Nations 40, other Mohawk reserves such as Akwesasne and Kahnawake also have populations of around 10,000.
