History

Established in 1967 as part of Selangor State Development Corporation, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor Sports and Recreation Club, the football team made its name in 1970's and 1980's as one of the force in the Selangor state and national club tournaments.[1]

The club has been a regular to the national league when they achieved promotion to Premier League in 2004 season after became the champion of Malaysia FAM League the previous year.[2]

The club has played in the highest league, the Malaysia Super League for several seasons before being relegated to the second division in 2014 season. But after spending two years in Premier League, the club achieved promotion back to the top-tier division again after finish second in 2016 Malaysia Premier League season.

Media coverage

PKNS FC's domestic and international matches (depending on the location and the broadcast station) are broadcast either live or delayed on Malaysian free-to-air and satellite television channels. All broadcasting rights are controlled by MP & Silva.[3]

Ownership

The club is own by a private company, PKNS Sports Sdn Bhd. As part of privatisation effort by Football Malaysia LLP, every club in Malaysia Super League and Malaysia Premier League will be required to obtain Football Association of Malaysia Club Licensing Regulations (FAM CLR) license in order to compete in Malaysian League. The team has been incorporated as a private company under the name PKNS Sports Sdn. Bhd. in 2016 and has left its affiliation with Football Association of Selangor (FAS) as in order to comply with the licensing requirement.[4]

However, the club has chosen to affiliate itself with Selangor Malays Football Association in order to secure future fate for itself and its nine other youth teams during the conflict between itself and FAS when FAS decided to halt PKNS FC participation in 2017 Malaysia Super League.[5][6] It has been clarified by FAM that PKNS FC has not been needed to affiliate itself with any other FAM affiliates in order to compete in competition managed by FMLLP.[7]
